Notes from a DFW - yeh right in 11 years!!!

Hi all

Thought I would start a few ramblings from a DFW - I have found so much inspiration and help from other threads - thanks (Follow Dotty's and Obi's without fail) (will follow yours too if I can find it.......)

Well a bit of background first - divorced ages ago but carried on living as though two incomes arriving at my door hence the now huge debt of ......can hardly say it ........ £31,000. Yes I know, I know - what was I doing. I think it was a combination of trying to not let the divorce affect the children and sticking my head so far in the sand that I could see Australia in the distance...

However 2006 is the year for progess. I decided that I could no longer manage having tried all sorts of home spun ideas for easing the debt burden - no good at home spun .....

So to the merry old CCCS I turned - wow such nice people who did not confirm my feelings of being a right twit with money. So budget is now written and information sent to CCCS and token payment sent to creditors. New bank accounts set up and direct debits being stopped this week.

I feel so in control - well a little bit that I have actually done a bit on my dissertation - oh hum only 4750 words to go....

Oh forgot to add my car comes back on Friday as I was in a crash 2 weeks ago - yipee as courtesy car has all the power of a wind up toy - goes up a steep hil at 20mph in 2nd gear.

Well enough blurb from me...... I wonder if anyone will read this...... No I thought not - but I feel better :D

Well done! It is quite a weight off your mind once you take that first step isn't it? I think that once you make the call, and actually go through everything and stop pretending it isn't as bad as you thought then you are on the right road. Not to say there aren't challenging times ahead. I am having quite a few problems with MBNA who insist on ringing me daily despite everything.

    Good luck!

  • Aw....

Thanks everyone - I am really chuffed that you read it..

My dissertation is in OT so may be one day I will qualify and be able to practice.... Also salary should go up them too and I am now paid a pittance. But it is sooo hard - I sat there today trying to get my head around all the Corec and marking guidelines and thought I can't do this. However this occurs at every assignment time and I do get it done - not brilliant marks but a pass.

On the DFW front I do have one question - I sent the set letter given by CCCS to my creditors with a token payment. They appear to have got these as I got an urgent text from EGG today asking me to call. Do I respond or leave it as the letter tells them that the CCCS are dealing with the payments on a DMP.

    Hi MTCATK,
I would call Egg and explain the situation BUT request that all further correspondences go through CCCS and in writing. They will call, and call and call (along with the rest!) and ask for 'small payments' etc. I'm 4 payments into my DMP (and mine is sitting at 14 years, gone down from 143! ha ha ha, you'd have to laugh or you'd cry...)
Good luck, well done and PM me if you want to chat or any advice,

As my dad - very helpfully! - said when i revealed my situation (£42k 2yrs ago, £37k now!)

"when you owe a grand its your problem, when you owe 42 grand, its theirs !!"

Kind of sums up why they chase and chance their arm.
    Smile!
  • Hi Daddyo

You know what I think your Dad was right.... I shall think of the huge debt problem as theirs from now on...
well it doesn't mean that I am not planning to pay them back just a difference of perspective.
