Reclaiming PPI through a company - who's the best?

  • Actually, there are regular posts by many who've used a claims co. asking how they can get away with not paying them! . . . they know no shame ;)
You're right, the only posts I've ever seen recommending their use have come from spammers!
  • Well after numerous calls from these PPI companies, I decided to phone Natwest myself on 0800 015 0319. I was convinced I had never had PPI as I would never have taken out any additional insurance!
Just shows how wrong I was, Natwest told me that I had paid PPI on a loan from 18 years ago. The loan was for £4.5k so I doubt I had paid much but even if I get a few hundred back that would be great!
My only concern was that I was taken through a series of 7 questions asking why I was unhappy with my policy etc etc. I could only say that I was never made aware of any PPI, its benefits etc and just told to sign the paperwork. They will probably find the paperwork and show me my signature and reject the claim, but worth a go as there is no way on this earth I would have willingly & knowingly taken this out.
Still, in summary, it was very easy, took 5 minutes, done over the phone and we will see what happens.....
My only regret is knowing what I should have maybe said to ensure I get this money back!!
  • I wonder if anyone can help, I had quite a few loans etc
A few years ago I tried to claim using the forms
Only Natwest replied, and they said they could not find a record of a loan I had.
It seems a minefield remembering who I had what with.
Is there a company that will do a more thorough search and not take no for an answer and do what you would expect for the money being paid? THanks

No. your data is not in the public domain.

  • Thank you, it helps to know that. (And the dry humour!)
I take I cannot sign over tights to request info then?
  • For anyone that was interested in the outcome of my PPI claim using DPA...
Unfortunately my claim was disallowed because although the insurance I bought from HSBC seemed like PPI it was in fact a different product that didn't need to conform to the rules that PPI did.

That said, I must praise DPA for being true to their word and not charging me a penny for their no win no fee claim policy.

In the absence of better guidance as to which agent to use, I can wholeheartedly recommend them if only for their honesty and professionalism.

So, in effect you put in a complaint about PPI but never had any PPI.
I can wholeheartedly recommend them if only for their honesty and professionalism.

Really? They let you put in a complaint about a product you didnt hold. Professional would be finding out what you had first before wasting your time, their time and the bank's time. Honest would not be putting in a complaint about a product you dont have.

That they failed to correctly identify the product sold.

Their regulator has told all CMCs to only submit a complaint after properly assessing whether there is sufficient evidence to establish that a case exists - including whether a PPI policy actually exists - which, in this case, it didn't.

Ignoring your regulator's rules and submitting a complaint about a product that never acually existed falls short of my definitions of both honest and professional.
