I don't have a TV Licence, but if isn't a Hudl with double up vouchers (so it cost me £2) and it's plugged into the TV and we watch on demand all the time. We watch more TV now then ever before because we watch what we like rather then what's on.
The £12.50 I save each month buys my 3 children DVDs of their favourate cartoons and movies (just spent £70 on classic Disney movies after the DVD saving pot grew really large) and I think we have a better quality of life as I have more control over what we watch. We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
Thanks for the info :-
" occasionally we buy a month of netflix if there's nothing to watch), but it's watched when it suits us "
Didn't know you could do that but it's a great idea.
We switched away from Netflix and some of the family wish we hadn't The new Amazon Prime sometimes has a dearth of appealing options. And sometimes we think a film is free but turns out we have to pay!0 -
For the past 3 years I have hardly watched any live Tv so a few weeks ago I decided to give up my Tv Licence. I think I was under the impression in the past that you had to have the aerial plugged in to watch Dvd's or use the Wii. I also have Amazon Love Films and love nothing better than curling up in bed a bit too early and watching catch up TV on my ipad. Saves on the heating bills as well.
I did everything right, removed my aerial and phoned them up and they cancelled my direct debits and I got a refund of money owed. I have not missed it at all as life is the same but I am over £12 a month better off. That is until yesterday when I received my first threatening letter that stated if I did not get a Tv licence by the beginning of next month my address will be passed to Canterbury Enforcement Division for investigation . I had to phone them up again and they updated the records but said I will probably have some visits. I have never broken the law in my life but already feel a bit tainted because of this. Has anybody got any advice on what to do if they come to the door? Should you not engage in talking to them or invite them in to look around. I have now got my camera near the door ready to film, think I have been watching too many You Tube video's0 -

It's pretty par for the course that you'll get threatening letters if there is no licence registered at your address. They don't seem to understand how people can live without watching live tv.
If an inspector comes to your door tell him politely that you do not watch live-streamed tv, and have already informed TVL of that fact. They don't have a right to come into your house without a warrant, which they won't have.
As long as you're not watching live tv then you have nothing to worry about.0 -
No TV here because the net is far more useful but I don't watch live TV online.:female: INFP :female:0
