I'm not telly-free, but I am LIVE telly-free.
I use my TV to watch DVDs and VHS tapes and, in the process, save myself £145-50 a year. :cool:0 -
I could quite easily live without a telly i'd really only miss my weekly fix of Holby City. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

been tv-free for 2yrs now (originally did this for 4 years when i became a single parent 18yrs ago and my daughter was 3 - realised at her age it was a critical time for kids to not be manipulated by the power of advertising and trashy progs that she didn't have to be influenced by). as a single person now, i fill my time with gardening and reading. i like catchup but only for the occasional tv series that i'm hooked. it's usually one programme and when that's finished, i'll wait to find a replacement later. last one was The Bridge which I've enjoyed immensely (loved the other Scandi progs too) When I can remember, occasionally watch Gardeners' World.. I check BBC weather video everyday as I need to suss out the water requirements for my lotti!
R4 and R6 are my best friends.. I have it on first thing when i wake up (the news) and if I'm feeling in the mood, R6 (like the w/e for this as i can relax when I don't have work to think about!)0 -
IMHO, it's chewing gum for the mind. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

No TV as have a computer, gave away my flatmates old freeview box away when i moved 2 years ago, think i still have some TV cables that i should get rid of though.
Dont know many people with TVs, who has the space in modern day flatshares or even small flats for a TV? Laptops and tablets take up much less space. Does make me laugh though when people say ipads are so useful as they can watch TV while cooking. You can put the saving of the TV license towards the cost of an ipad! (said sarcastically)0 -

But if they are watching live-stream tv on an ipad (or anything for that matter) they will still need a licence.0 -

After catching up on this thread and the amount of crap on tv plus the amount of time in front of tv lately i am set to try and give up tv.
know of 2 people vaguely in my area without a tv and seem to manage like people here.
i could do with saving up and geting a digital radio though.
what advice would people suggest on radios and as an alternative to tv?0 -
I wouldnt bother. Just do it all on the net. It will save you even more cash. The one thing I would do is make sure you have unlimited (or a hefty amount) of download on your home broadband.
I'm with O2 and for my home phone and unlimited broadband I pay £21 per month.0 -
After trying (again) to give up tv ive failed.
I think part of the trouble is i dont have a computer indoors, and can get bored easily plus am trying to figure out what to do in spare time as it is (am trying to get a pastime/get back into tai chi).0
