Thanks Justamum, I wondered how she was connected to the Ecoli outbreak. It was good to hear her get back there again.

Redlady, I like the sound of Chill FM, I shall see if I can find that.

Well, the TV licensing people noticed I cancelled my D/D and telephoned me today, I was really pleased because I couldn't find the form I was meant to fill in online, so I just updated them on the phone. They warned me I might get someone calling on me to check and I said that would be OK (my TV is well and truly disconnected and put away now). I was pleased to learn that I don't owe any money either as this was my renewal month anyway. Heh, looks like this month's experiment is going to continue quite a bit longer!

I found Radio 4 a bit boring last night, it seemed to be mostly about politics, is that normal for Radio 4 in the evenings?

TV free for six years here :) when I look at the schedules I realise how little I'm missing.

Just put in a complaint to the BBC because, amongst the normal rude and insulting letters TVL send me, I got one yesterday which read: -

    "WHATEVER YOU'RE WATCHING
    HOWEVER YOU'RE WATCHING IT
YOUR HOME NEEDS A TV LICENCE

Please licence your home by 20th March 2012"

Really, TVL? Whatever I'm watching I need a licence, even if it's kittens on Youtube, or birds out of my kitchen window? Send them a snotty letter quoting Misrepresentations Act 1968, will look forward to the normal copy and paste "have to be firm as we have a duty to catch evaders" reply.

Tv free since december but do still have licence as like option of watching eg rugby live on computer (which one does need a licence for). Love the radio, love iplayer/stvplayer etc.
Re ecoli break out, what i didn't understand was why they never tried to trace where clarrie had contracted it from. Still miss nigel -was hoping he'd come back as a ghost ;-)

No TV here either, which flummoxed the Virgin Media saleswoman who called me up to flog cable TV services to me - she didn't seem to have a response to that one on her script...:rotfl:

id love to be tv free, managed a couple of months a few years back but went back to it when i was sold a tv a colleague was replacing for a silly amount (nothing wrong with it colleague was getting a new one).
it was funny at one point when i was tv free as my half sister kept asking if id watched programmes even though no tv? i kept saying id not got a tv but she kept asking about programmes until i said 'oh yes i didnt watch it all as i didnt like it?', no more was said after that?
definatley brave peeps, admirable too as i watch way too much tv and it too much of a crutch at times when im bored lonely etc.

I went TV free over four years ago. The Freeview box died (with that rather wonderful burnt wires smell). It was decided that we'd pop into town the following day for a replacement. Then I changed my mind (hey, I'm a woman, it's allowed). My husband and I are fond of setting challenges for each other and I challenged him to go TV free for two weeks (yes, I know, highly adverturous of me).

The TV sat on its table intimidating us with its silent malevolence. It was like having a corpse in the room.

After three days I changed all the furniture around so the settees faced each other over the coffee table rather than facing the grim spectre in the corner.

It took another month for us to freecycle the corpse out of the house.

Despite not having a television, I do still pay the TV Licence. The Today Programme is worth the price just in itself. Then add on Garderner's Question Time, The News Quiz, The Now Show, the Afternoon Play - may I take this opportunity to rave wildly about the third series of Pilgrim that was on the Afternoon Play a month ago? It was wonderful - and the Classic Serial - the Complete Smiley was British radio at its very best. Oh and then there's Radio 4 Extra. And the Archers. I love Radio 4. The radio keeps me company, makes me laugh, think, ponder, cry and all the time I can do my chores, the cooking and my crafts.

I do use the iplayer. Sherlock, Gardener's World, Doctor Who, Victorian/Edwardian Farm and the hubby insists on Top Gear (men do have their flaws - unlike women who are perfect ;)). Often it only amounts to a couple of hours a week.

So all together now.... I'm proud of the BBC from Mitch Benn of the Now Show.

You don't need a licence for the radio or i-player if you only use it for catch-up.

I know. I'm happy to pay the licence for the service I get. The BBC entertains me through two of its mediums and I support it. I do, also, like the option of streaming live TV - particularly the News Channel when a major news story is breaking.
