Thats Me, brilliant positive post. Many thanks.
Well my tv has finally left the building! I put it away in a cupboard for a while to see if I could do without it. Now it has been loaded in to a car and has been re-homed:j
I've got a lovely big empty cupboard which is going to be home to my fabric stash! I'll be too busy sewing now to miss the tvFlowers are sunshine for the soul0 -

I've been telly-free for six years and don't miss it at all! (Although the kids I teach are incredulous that I'm even surviving without one)0

You can use the catch up facilities for TV stations without a TV Licence, as long as you don't watch the live feeds.
4OD, itvplayer, 5 On Demand and BBC iPlayer are all available. If you're prepared to sign up and pay, there is more choice than that.
However, due to licencing restrictions with some imported programmes (and some homegrown), it isn't possible to watch the whole output of each station.
If, say you wanted to follow Dexter on ITV, you couldn't. ITV don't show that on their player.
Beware, ITV also require you to sign in to watch programmes more than 7 days old, they also charge for certain programmes, like "Man in a Suitcase".
You couldn't catch up with the entire series so far of "Marvel's Agents of Shield" on 4OD as they only have one episode available at a time.
Certain films and foreign programmes aren't available on BBC iPlayer. either.
As I am watching online, I find I'm very selective about what I watch. It certainly isn't possible to channel hop.
I've been telly free for years. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
Well, it is almost 2 years since I gave up my TV and at first I watched a lot of DVDs and programmes on iPlayer, but nowadays I don't even do that.
I do read a lot more, last year I read 80+ books and I listen to the radio (I now have a small digital radio), podcasts and audiobooks.

Hello all.
I'm having another go at being tv free since i lost signal to a brand new tv and even an amplified areal doesnt help day before yesterday.
Called housing association and if the communal areal okay and it to do with anything in my property i could be charged £90 for fixing it.0 -
Good luck! I am still TV free after a couple of years and it is definitely not missed!Flowers are sunshine for the soul0

I'd manage quite happily without it, but my DH won't bite the bullet (yet). In fact, the tv itself gets used more as a means of viewing PlayStation2 and Wii games than for watching broadcast content; so I'd still need a means of using the WiiFit game.
I notice a lot of posters enjoy radio - sadly that's not much use to me; I'm now too deaf. On the rare occasions we do watch broadcast content (always taped, to fast-forward through the adverts) I have to have the subtitles on, or I can't follow it.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
LW if you only watch downloaded content you don't need to pay the license fee... only if you watch live streaming/as it is aired tv so you could hook the tv up to iplayer/4od etc and play what you want when you want without recording or license. HDMI cable from lappy to tv
If you have Amazon prime there is Amazon instant Video which you also do not need a license to watch..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I don't watch a lot of Tv but i think i'd miss it if i gave up completly. I'd miss the radio more, that goes on first thing when i get up and i'll listen when i go to bed of a night. Nearly always Merseyside the lacal station so it;s a mixture of music, chat, and phone-in programmes.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
