Just thought I'd bump this up the list again. I received a letter on Friday asking me to call into the Grafton office to re confirm my NINO, anyone else had this?!?

I don't think much of so-called positive discrimination - it stinks!

That's interesting that there are no interviews. I might actually get a job after all as I tend to talk a big load of sh*t when I'm nervous therefore fail interviews a lot:o

I applied for the Armourers position a year or two ago,the was 6 posts going & I was number 4 on the list because the RAF dont give you an Armourers Certificate as it's part of my trade despite me working in Armoury's & on small arms (guns to the un knowing) for over 6 years of my 12 year RAF career.

Bacause of the 50/50 rule I was placed on a reserve list &,I gather from a friend who's a PSNI armourer, the other 3 who got the job had no experience in the trade.

From what I know about the merit pool is in relation to the 50-50 split - 50% of the people working there have to be from the roman catholic community, the other 50% protestant and every other religion in the country at the minute. This is my understanding, I could be wrong.

Not eactly 50:50 then is it if the "Protestant" 50% is split between protestants and "all other religions... what if there is mass application from Muslims, Sihks, Jewish or Jedi for that matter.... that'll reduce the "protestant" 50%

I can completely understand the reasoning behind 50:50 recruitment for front line police officers but not really for back room administrators.... For office based admin roles surely should be a case of best qualified person for the role!

I applied many moons ago and was highly qualified for a role in the CS/NIO. I was told I wasn't high enough up the 'order of merit' and later found out it was religion based. When they did offer me the role a few months later I told them where to stuff it!

I did end up working and a contractor for the PSNI and came across many staff who were working for Grafton whilst hoping to get into the PSNI proper. There was one lad who was on his 7th attempt when I left and was rejected every time on the 50:50. Another guy I came across was on his 3rd application when he was accepted late for his 2nd attempt. He did a Freedom of Information request and he scored higher than the vast majority of RC candidates but was rejected due to religion.

Personally I think any kind of discrimination in unfair. I wouldn't like to think I only got a job to boost the number of females or Protestants in an organisation. It's the same on the mainland where they want the police force to mirror the demographics in the community they support i.e. if 20% of the community is Sikh then so must the police force be which again means candidates who are better qualified will be overlooked in favour of minorities who will "make up the numbers".

I wonder what half wit decided to call the list of people who passed the test the "merit pool". Merit doesn't really come into it, depending on who you are.

    Another brilliant 'Americanization' that 1:rotfl:

The 50:50 is getting a bit beyond a joke now thou, jobs should be awarded to the best candidate for the job, not by their light sabre skills:rotfl: in a few years from now the country will be run by Jedi's, mark my words, be warned, be scared, be ............... hang on a minute could they be any worse than the current bunch of ejits ????

Yoda for Pope, King, First minister, Chief Constable..........:T
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

I haven't had anything like that but sounds interesting - let us know if anything happens! I'm getting fed up with all the waiting and what if's now, wondering if I will be offered anything or not :(
I was gonna email them to see if they could tell me my position but it said on the letter they can't?!

    Congrats Betty well done you:T

If you could leave an address on here we can send you all our dodgy speeding tickets and you can ;)sort them out for us;):rotfl:

Security clearance has been speeded up recently, I got my Access NI within a week through the Health Service;) and thats a complete history and security check in relation to Children's Services, so it shouldn't take long for yours.

Fingers crossed you get some good news soon:beer:

Im near certain this job requires CTC clearance rather than Access NI clearance, Access NI clearance is to do with working directly with vulnerable adults and children, CTC is more likely as it deals with counter terrorism.
CTC clearance normally takes a wee bit longer, im in the merit pool myself and i've been crossing my fingers for many months now!

    Good luck everyone!

hey guys, I just phoned grafton for an update this morning and they said they had received word from psni saying that all candidates on the merit list would be getting an update of their status in the next two to three weeks.

Does anyone know where these roles are based ie, stations or civil service offices?
