Thank you all for your advice. May just pick one up anyway and use it solely for business and travel. My 'goal' is to buy a laptop for £199, but as I watch the prices I think I'm about a year away from that.:cool:OGB - Queen of Bling baby...:A0

I agree with you, but, I have tried external speakers and nothing has changed! Believe me when I say there is something wrong with them.
They are incredibly low and noway for them to be normal.
I will phone acer helpline and let you know with the updates
Thank you

for those of you fortunate to have a laptop in stock near you at £299. Note it has wireless built in which is in effect saving you another £20. I assumed it didn't and when my friend got it was suprised to see it specified on the box.
The advent version of this laptop (same spec) is £399 instore at Currys/PC World without wireless. The cheapest price I could find this Acer laptop was on Comet's website at £349. It said comet store sold it at £399 but the new catalogue instore suggests they don't stock it anymore but can order it in for the near future.
I want to correct my previous post where I said Comet will price match any tesco. Comet will price match any tesco store within 10 miles and give you 10% difference. So if you're lucky you can get this for £289.990 -

That's a bit odd. It would suggest the issue is with the soundcard (Well, the sound chip on the motherboard but you know what I mean). Is it OK if you play an MP3 or a DVD?0 -

What people don't realise is how un-portable these type of notebooks are. They're never designed to be taken around in a bag or similar, the battery life after the first few months will dwindle to around 30 mins, and they're flimsy and plasticky as anything.
I picked up a 2nd hand IBM thinkpad off ebay for a good price, not only is it smaller, tougher and has a huge battery life, i'm sure the P3M 1.2 would give any of the nasty celerons a run for their money.0 -

I did, but nothing has changed!
It is the second one and the same problem persists!
It is a loely laptop for home. It has got a wireless capability and Dvd writer
which is cool for this kind of price, but, what is wrong with the sound!!?
I even tried the headphones on, yet nothing.
I think if there is a problem, it would be with whle batch sent to Tesco!!Be nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -
I must try and get the time to try mine tonight then! I'll let you know if it's also muffled.0

Have you tried adjusting the volume with the keyboard hot keys? Press Fn and the up arrow key.
We don't seem to be having any problems with ours and my son has been playing DVDs and music on his.0 -

Ahh another example of someone who knows nothing so uses the old "Celeron Sucks" to put down these new mobile chips.
These are NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING like the Celeron of old, that would get hot enough to cook eggs and have no L2 cache whatsoever.
They have 1MB of L2 Cache, compared with your P3's paltry 256K and run at a 400mhz FSB instead of 100.
Not only that, but the 400mhz FSB means they use faster RAM so all around performance puts that P3 of yours under the table.
