Many apologies but a general question about the £300 model as I don't know much about this brand.

I've got a desktop and laptop already, but I need another laptop for internet use, ipod, Sims2/expansion packs and to take away with me on business as opposed to my other laptop at home.

As long as it can do the above, I'm in. Please advise.

    Thanks in advance. ;)

I'm not in the least Techie but I don't think this would suit Sims2 because of the graphics :)

I would have, if the CS rep had seemed more helpful, didn't seem to want to know. Think I'll ring round the stores nearest to me. Thanks anyway greyster.
This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

i guess you get that ... but i got equally unhelpful people at the store end, perhaps ring again and get a diff rep. Freecall after all.

Don't quote me but I think the problem is the graphics are shared?

I know when I bought Sims2 for the desktop I had to upgrade my graphics card on that :)

"Minimum System Requirements for The Sims 2

If you have a T&L capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM then you need at least:
    800 MHz processor or better
256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000
At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space

If you have a non-T&L capable video card (an Intel Extreme Graphics or a Radeon 7000/VE Series) then you need at least:
    2.0 GHz processor or better
256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98, or Windows 2000
At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space
Get the most current driver for your video card. The manufacturers usually have the video drivers on their sites for you to download. Visit the nVidia site, the ATI site or the support site for your computer's manufacturer for the latest drivers for those video cards.

Supported video cards (and the more video memory the better):

ATI RadeonTM series (7000 or better)
Radeon 7000/VE series (non-T&L; requires 2.0 GHz processor)
    7200, 7500
    8500, All-In-Wonder 8500
    9000, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800
    X300, X600, X800

    Nvidia® QuadroTM series
    Quadro, Quadro2, Quadro4

Nvidia® Geforce series (GeForce2 and better)
    GeForce2
    GeForce3, 3 Ti
    GeForce4, 4Ti, MX 420, 440
    GeForce FX 5200, 5600, 5700, 5800, 5900, 5950
    GeForce 6600, 6800

Intel® Extreme Graphics (non-T&L; requires 2.0 GHz processor)
    82845, 82865, 82915"

INAE but I'd say that's a No-No for running it on this laptop.

I watched my mate buy the last one (reserved) from Blackpool tesco extra. They had 5 this morning at 12PM.

Leyland, Chorley and Barrow In Furness don't have any. Lancaster and Preston don't have Tesco Extra. I'm guessing Manchester would be the best bet now for anyone in the Lancashire area.
  • Hi everone

I live in Redditch and I have been to my local store to ask about the £300 one on Thursday. The CS said it will arrive on Monday morning. I have been there as early as I can and there was nothing. aAfter enquiring, they said ''Yes, we've got it, but the offer is going to start on Wednsday, but you can buy it now if you like'' I have bought it and went back home happy with my new mechine. The problem I have now is the sound!! The sound was very low, despite of my efforts to adjust the volum control levers everywhere!! I called the Acer helpline and they could do nothing and suggested taking back to Tesco for an exchange. Been there and exchange it with another one of the same model ''2414'', but, the same poblem persisted. Very low sound, annoying, muffled voice when I used the messenger voice chat, but the mic was ok.
Anyone got any problem with the speakers' sound being low?
I don't know what to do!!
    Help!

Laptop speakers are rarely good, especially on low-end machines. The simple solution might be spending a tenner on a pair of speakers?

One interesting thing on this thread is the "reserving" issue. Some stores are happy to do it, others aren't.

Oh, and this is NOT a machine for games. The processor is a bit low, the memory is also a bit low (though easily upgradable), but the main thing is the graphics - it shares the system memory rather than having it's own dedicated graphics memory. This makes a HUGE difference. This is a perfect machine for Office/Web/Email etc, not for games or photo or video editing. If you want to do that, spend 2 or 3 times the amount, or buy a desktop.
