Wanted a laptop for my 14 year old for his options next year. This is a great price, so not going to break the bank.
Your post got me thinking about when I was doing mine. When I was 15 my Dad bought us calculator. It was a Commodore Scientific on a special scheme at work where you could pay £1 per week out of your wages for a year.
£52 in 1976 would be worth more than £299 now - I think the laptop is the "new calculator"!
    Can I help?

Went into my local Tesco to enquire about this again and they said that the stock would be in on Monday. Phoned general customer services as advertised in the brochure to confirm this and was told that it is only selected stores that are getting it, but yes, it would be in stores from Monday 17 July.

But of course that same spec from Dell will have longer battery life and will be FAR, FAR more robust.

Acer laptops, especially cheap Acer laptops, are renowned for being pretty flimsy.

My Dell cost £350.71 when I bought it and has the 6 cell battery, 1.5ghx processor, 256mb RAM, 40GB hdd.

256MB is fine for most uses, very rarely have I thought that I needed to upgrade it to anything more than that, and when that thought occurs its because I'm running a stupid amount of programs that dont need to be open anyway. RAM upgrade for it is £27, I can live with that should it be required.

If you do not need a long battery life and aren't worried about the machine getting damaged, buy this Acer, otherwise go for a Dell.

So has anyone seen it this morning?

I went into my Tescos on Sunday and the guy at the electrical counter seemed unsure about it. When I mentioned the back to school catalogue he said all that stuff was coming in at the start of August.

I was told by head office that the promotion would start today and was told 2 stores local to me would have them in. Got on the phone at 8 am to see if they had the stock and if they would reserve me one but they said they haven't got any and their managers said they won't be getting them either. Have been frantically phoning all stores within a 50 mile radius of me about this but nobody seems to have any stock in. Told to keep phoning several times during the day in case any stock does come in.

Total shambles. Will post though if I manage to track any down.

    Thanks Alison.

Maybe by "promotion starts today" they actually mean "deliveries to stores today"

Has anyone got a scan of the leaflet? I couldn't see any back to school leaflets in the store yesterday (a big Extra store), and there's nothing on the Tesco website.

I just popped into the Extra store near my office and asked, and she said they haven't got them in yet and to try again on Thursday.
