Young Drivers Car Insurance (2004-2005)

Tesco's are very cheap for young/new drivers, but that is because they have a compulsory excess of up to 400 quid.
I got quoted £465 for a 1.1 old banger. TPFT.0 -
I was talking to a very helpful advisor at tesco car insurance the other day and while I was on the line I asked if tesco would cover my motorcycle as well.
He advised me that tesco only insure cars.
HOWEVER tesco and aparantley several other insurance providers are happy to let customers use their no-claim discount earned on a motorcycle count on a car policy.
This is VERY important information that can be used to your advantage very easily by being organised and being prepared to invest when your child is 16.
Simply buy a wreck of a moped of ebay for a few pounds, it doesnt need an mot or to actually work or be any good. Register it in your little darlings name and insure it on a third party only policy. ( Dont forget to declare it off the road with the dvla though)
Because they have never actually ridden it it will be fair to assume that when they turn 17 thay will have a full one year ncd. Do the maths and see what you save. This is not something any insurer mentions when you are asking for a quote. So I am left wondering how many genuine 17 year old ex moped owning youngsters there are who have just paid too much for thier first car insurance.
Makes you think doesn't it.
Just in case you were wondering both my daughters will actually be having decent mopeds which they will be allowed to use when they get to 16, but I do understand most parents are terrified of them. (Mopeds & teenagers)
AbjemTo anyone that tells you "There is no I in team" say no there isn't
But there ARE TWO I'S IN COMMISSION and I dont get paid "Team"
...........:D.......... Faint Heart, Fair Maiden, Juan NEVER!.0 -
It's probably been mentioned on the site before, but you can often reduce the cost of insurance (in your children's name) by adding as many squeeky clean drivers to their policy as you can - i.e. your self and your wife. This is often worth a £50 reduction per extra driver - in particular I'd suggest Norwich Union. There's no downside - they stuff up and it doesn't affect you.
Also worth running quotes for your home address and where ever they live - especially if they are at Uni - If Uni is close, then it's probably cheaper to insure from your home, on the basis they spend more time at home (including holidays) than at Uni. This may involve the concept of "wishful thinking", rather than what may turn out to be reality.
N.U. also do an accelerated no claims bonus plan - ie you get an extra year's bonus after nine months. Problem is, it's only with them - so if their quote on renewal is rubbish, you are stuffed - since when you shop around, most other companies won't accept this concept, and knock you back a complete year.
Despite the good idea that extra driving instruction is - i.e. "Pass Plus" - I've never found a company that are competitive, even when they offer a reduction for having done the extra lessons.
On a less constructive note, having been driven a few miles by my son who has 12 months experience, drives a basic Ford Ka, and has just had a renewal of £990 down from his first year of £1500 (current insurer NU, previous Tesco's), £990 seems like a bargain - I wouldn't insure him for twice the money.........
Seems like the best bet is to have daughters...... much cheaper insurance, better drivers, keep their cars clean.......
Finally, I did investigate the "Pay as you Drive" concept - i.e. black box in car charges you by the mile, with miles driven after 10.00pm costing more. Although there would seem to be some potential in this idea, current quotes just stupid.0 -

How to find young driver's car insurance for cheap?
I wonder, "Champion_UK", just how closely you are connected with Endsleigh Insurance, as your post appears to be little better than a direct link to them?
If you are as well aquainted with them as I suspect, perhaps you might suggest they would have more success selling insurance to the student market if they were even remotely competitive? For student car insurance, they are 30% over the top - Tesco and Norwich Union are almost always cheaper. Even for basic household insurance, https://www.saxon.co.uk seem to be much cheaper.
As a company that was originally set up to provide students with cheap insurance, I can't imagine who they think they are selling to now.0 -

Totally agree with your sentiments re Endsleigh Insurance. They were almost twice the price NU quoted me.0 -

Must admit it slightly winds me up to see these dummy posts that point directly to a site, with only one real aim in mind. These companys would really do better if they spent a little longer considering the quality of their offering.
What really gets me going about Endsleigh, in particular, is their "on-line" quote system - which lets you stuff in reams of data, before telling you "We're sorry - but our on-line system is currently not working - we'll get back to you". It will indeed be a most unfortunate thing if they following me up with a telephone sales call........
I still don't quite understand how or why Endsleigh maintain any kind of links with the student population.0 -
Yep phoned me about 10 minutes after their website quote "wasn't working".0

Whilst not wishing in particular to get pedantic about posts, recently other contributors to other forums have posted "referrers" links to really good deals, and have had the forum suspended because of this.
And yet, "Champion_UK" is allowed to post the above, which just appears to be an ad for the rather less than average insurance that Endsleigh provide, and nobody says a word.
I notice that "Champion_UK" has made a grand total of two posts - perhaps someone could investigate where the other post points to?0 -
Is Anyone Able To Recommend An Insurance Company Who Will Not Charge The Earth To Insure My Son. Preferably I Would Like Him To Have His Own Insurance From The Word Go, If I Can Find One That Doesn'T Send Me Broke!!!0
