I want to add my 2penneth to this Price Match debate having had an issue recently over a Nikon S3000 digital camera I purchased at Dixons Travel in Manchester Airport Terminal 1 on 18/12/10. I paid £84.50 and went on my travels thinking that I had secured a bargain. Upon my return from holiday I checked Amazon.co.uk to discover that the very same camera was on sale on 27/12/10 at £79.99 (not a 3rd party seller) so I sent an email to customer services at Dixons.
I got a reply stating that "Having contacted the Manchester Terminal, I have been advised that the price match has be confirmed on the day of delivery. Therefore, they are unable to process the difference. As a goodwill gesture, I can offer a £5.00 payment voucher on receiving your home address and receipt details."
I initially accepted this but then contacted Amazon.co.uk to ask about the price of the camera on 18/12/10 to be told it was £64.78!! I subsequently contacted Dixons customer services again and I was told that: 'we can offer the difference, in light of the information from Amazon, I can authorise a Bank Account Credit on receiving your receipt details, home address and a daytime contact number. Our Finance Team can then contact you to complete the payment.' Hooray!! A result!!
I have to say I vowed since the early 1990s NEVER to buy anything from the Dixons group and I have been true to my word until this desperate blip when i realised I had left my old camera at home at the airport! I did have to contact the CEO by email and got a prompt reply to state that payment was en route.
I would always give customer services dept a try but as I was waiting for a response for over 10 days a quick email to john.browett@dixons.co.uk seemed to do the trick!
I will NEVER buy ANYTHING else from Dixons group. They seem to be more trouble than anywhere I have ever shopped before.
I was also surprised by the sales assistant (manager?) who tried to sell me an extended warranty who told me that he has replaced copious amounts of Ipods through the scheme, getting free upgrades etc - hmmmmmm!!!

Im not sure what your complaint is - the pricematch policy (which I didnt know applied to the travel stores) doesn't include internet retailers...
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

So, Let me get this straight. You Bought a camera on the 18th, You found out that amazon had it cheaper on the 27th and contacted Dixons who gave you a refund of the difference. Now, Amazon are a web retailer and stores will not price match web retailers. The company will give you a refund of the difference if you find it cheaper within 7 days. That's what's stated. You waited 9 Days to get the refund, then got another refund based on the price of the product on your day of purchase, and you're STILL NOT HAPPY. It's amazing, they could have turned around and said No, you wouldn't have been any better off, but now that they have actually given you a refund out of goodwill you stab them in the back by not shopping there again. It's amazing that when retailers give bad customer service they get slated (which I completely agree with). But when a retailer gives good customer service, they STILL get slated!

I Hope I never have you as a customer, it seems as though you will never be happy.

Hmmm I'd hate to tell someone who seemed so sure of their 'facts' that they're not wrong but in this case I'm happy to say: SEE ADVERT BELOW!!!

Dixons Travel is not an online retailer, you can only reserve your items and pay on collection in their store. Whereas dixons.co.uk, are on the basis you complete your contract over the internet.
Best Regards

And they did beat your price promise, they based their price promise on the information given by you to them, they double checked the Amazon price and had it in stock. What else do you really expect them to do? Phone Amazon or John Lewis on every price promise request they got to check the price each day it says on the receipt?
From my point of view they behaved properly and gave the price difference back and when you checked further with amazon and informed Dixons of the price difference they refunded that too.

I was clearly making reference to the claim that Dixons Travel don't match online retailers which they clearly do. I did not mention anywhere that Dixons Travel is an online retailer did I?????

Answer: No they DID NOT BEAT the price promise - they merely matched it!!!
Also they claim to beat those prices as they claim to check the prices TWICE WEEKLY (see advert) so clearly it is not a watertight system leaving a lot to be desired. How long would it take for a daily check of all stated items? It would clearly cut down on the number of complaints from customers. Not rocket science is it? Maybe someone with some sense from Dixons will pick up on this and get themselves a bonus as having had a bright idea!!!
