Currys and the rest of the companies in their group are a bunch of *****. I asked them to price match John Lewis on a camera, told them to call and confirm it was in stock. All well and good. That's until the manager stepped in. He asked why I wanted to buy the item from Currys when JL were selling it cheaper. I explained that you have a price match policy on the big poster behind you that beats the price by 10%, so actually you will be cheaper. He then told me that they were no longer selling these cameras. They had it in stock as I saw the SA bring out a new one and it was also on display. He then claimed they were taking it off display as JL were selling it cheaper therefore they could not sell it. Makes a mockery of the policy and furthermore the manager refused to confirm in writing that he was refusing to sell me the item and give me a valid reason.
Stay away from Currys and PC World - the worst service in the UK for sure!

You could try sending an email to their CEO John Browett john.browett@dixons.co.uk he normally replies.

Esqui, since you are a currys person, is the mgr allowed to do this or was he concerned abt getting a kicking for reducing the price?

Possibly both. As in any retail store, you can be refused service for any reason at all.

However, it makes very little sense to turn someone away like that (I would never do it). For the simple reason that it's bad business - look how many people have read about your experience by posting it here! Yes there are times when doing a price match hurts the discount levels, but the Price Promise is there for a reason. The only time I have ever turned someone away for a price match is when we were unable to verify the competitors' stock levels (they'd closed half an hour earlier :p).

Yes, like in all companies his "minions" (aka employees) will reply because he's the manger of the company, not a customer service advisor...

He's allowed to do pretty much whatever he wants... although from the fact JL could sell it cheaper it implies there was probably still some profit even at the reduced price. I'm sure the person above him would like to know about it, though...

Would of raised his discount, yes, but Price Promise is meant to be a tool to drive repeat custom, not a hinderance.

Jakg, you sound like a typical Currys worker... all mouth and no intelligence. My comment was made in jest about the minions because somebody suggested emailing the MD directly and you can be your bottom dollar that he wont be reading any of the emails he receives! Read and understand before you shoot, dont be like a typical Currys worker who just reads out product info from the price ticket without understanding anything - gee, thanks, so helpful, as if I couldnt read that myself!

Wow, you just insulted several thousand people there. Nice going.

Jakg was just pointing out that when people send an email to the MD of a company, there are very few that will reply personally

JL does regularly end up selling stuff below margin because of the price promise. On the plus side, it builds up good will and repeat visits from customers so they get it back somewhere down the line, or through add on sales.

The DSGI business model seems to be "get as much money now,cos we'll probably never see them again." Whereas JL is currently saying, "If they leave happy, they'll be back and we'll get them next time :j"
