Jakg, you sound like a typical Currys worker... all mouth and no intelligence. My comment was made in jest about the minions because somebody suggested emailing the MD directly and you can be your bottom dollar that he wont be reading any of the emails he receives! Read and understand before you shoot, dont be like a typical Currys worker who just reads out product info from the price ticket without understanding anything - gee, thanks, so helpful, as if I couldnt read that myself!
Perhaps this (and by this I mean your attitude) is the reason why you seem to be receiving poor customer service?

For a second, lets assume I work at Curry's (I dont). Would you honestly class this as a rational and responsible way to talk to someone who can help you? Scratch that... would you class that as a rational way to talk to anyone... ever?

Whoa, seems like I'm in school and you guys are ganging up on me with insults flying through from everywhere. Wealroam, no I'm not 17.
Esqui's was the only helpful comment, in jest I replied about the MD's minions replying on his behalf as Esqui said email the MD and the MD normally responds. I think everyone knows the MD would never even look at those emails.
Jakg, you started this whole thing off with your patronising comment "Yes, like in all companies his "minions" (aka employees) will reply because he's the manger of the company, not a customer service advisor" to my joke, which I took offence to and retaliated.
Now I'm normally a perfectly courteous member of the public and have also worked in retail for 3 years so know what is like on the other side of the fence. My conversation at Curry's was fine until the manager butted in to block the price match, so there's nothing wrong with my attitude. Curry's are the ones who are the problem, it's the only retail store where I, along with most of my friends, have received shoddy customer service repeatedly. It's no wonder all their brands have been voted in the bottom 10 retail stores in the UK.
Now I've explained myself, I hope we can put the insults to rest and behave like grown ups.
As for the MD, no response yet. Will keep you all posted.

ps, here's a transcript of my email to the MD of Curry's:

    John

I am writing to complain about a Currys store's refusal to honour the Price Promise.

I read recently the DSGi's stores have been voted in the top 10 worst in the country by Which magazine and found this surprising since Currys and PC World are well established high street names.

My experience earlier today at Currys in South Ruislip, which left me shocked, angry and disgusted, highlighted just why your stores were given such low ratings.

I visited the store to purchase a Panasonic Lumix camera (model TZ10) which was on sale at £329.99. However, John Lewis were selling the same item for £279.95.

I was aware of your Price Promise offering to match the price and then beat it by 10% of the difference.

I advised the sales assistant of JL's price and they called to confirm stock availability and price at JL. This went without problem.

When the sales assistant then brought out a new camera from stock he explained to the manager on duty that he was to reduce the price of the camera things changed.

The manager asked me why I wished to purchase the camera from Currys when JL were selling it cheaper. I found this an odd question to ask.

I explained that with your Price Promise the camera would now be cheaper than JL's price, but he exclaimed that it's not that much difference.

He then refused to sell me the camera and gave a wide variety of excuses including Currys were no longer selling these cameras. I wondered then why they had the camera in stock and on display, as well as being for sale on the website.

He claimed that it was at his discretion to refuse to sell any item in store. I accepted this to be the case, but there needs to be some valid reason not to sell something, otherwise it is pure victimisation.

He then advised that he was taking the camera off display as they were no longer selling this model.

I continued to question his decision and why he was going against the Price Promise which was clearly displayed on a large poster behind him.

He then claimed that he would be sending an email to Head Office asking them to change the price of the camera so they could sell them again. I found this odd and completely against the spirit of your much-publicised Price Promise. He claimed the camera may be on sale again once Head Office confirmed he could sell it.

I asked him to write down on a piece of paper exactly why he was refusing to sell me the camera and also write his name, but he refused to write down anything other than his name. When questioned as to why, he said he didnt have the time. It was 4.30pm on a Thursday, the store was quiet with only 2 other customers in store and much more staff.

All in all I find this to be nothing short of dishonesty.

I would like a response to explain why I was denied the chance to purchase the camera and why the Price Promise was not upheld.

I look forward to hearing from you.

now now, Esqui, I only meant that about the 'typical' worker, like and those I've encountered on too many occasions at Currys/Dixons/PC World. You my friend are a diamond and extremely helpful and I really appreciate you taking the time to help. :A

Now I've received a response from customer services, they are investigating. I just hope they dont give me a vague, non-apologetic letter like I got once when a store manager decided to sell the PSP I had paid for and reserved prior to it's release. The manager lied to my face when I went to collect it telling me he had called me three times and sent a letter, but then decided to sell it to someone else. Funny how no letter arrived and there were no voicemail messages. Customer services gave me lip service and no apology or help!
Can you see why I hate the company or should I give you a few more examples?!
  • Hi all,
I've just been a tad unlucky with PC World and wanted some advice. I bought a laptop at the close of business on Wed night. I traded in my laptop and got £50 off which was great, but first thing thursday they introduced £100 trade in if you buy a laptop over £500, which mine is and then to make it worse lowered the laptop by £25. My question is really, will they price match themselves? sounds so stupid doesn't it? but the person offering the better deal is them!! just days after. It's not been 7 days yet and I'll be prepared to go in tomorrow to talk about it, but I'm really sad about it as that's £75 difference!

    There's no harm in asking.

  • Outside my local Currys store there is a large sign which says it will beat any price offered by the likes of Comet, John Lewis and a host of others
    Thanks
  • I work for Dixons Retail, they do pricematch themselves within 7 days, not sure how the trade in will work as I do not work on computing (whether there was paperwork or if it has been sent off) but you should def get the £25 it has gone down :)

Thanks for that! I went in and they did match the £25, sadly not the trade in price - kind of as expected there! Esqui is right in the respect that we'd all not expect to pay extra the day after, but it took me a heck of a lot of umming and aaahing before I bought it and it's just one of those typical things that it's happened.
I have two things with the experience that upset me mind; one is that the sales man said to me when I bought it, 'you'd not find a better trade in deal for that laptop, not even selling privately' however you'd hope he'd been informed by that point that the trade in was changing (the sales guy today told me he would have known and I was right to think so) and also the manager told me that the whole store wouldn't have known the deal was changing on weds night (again the sales guy told me they are informed of price changes and deal changes by the weds) so not sure what to think really. Up until last month I worked for a concession in a big store, and know the time frames we had for deal changes, but everywhere differs. I know how it feels to have uppity customers, and had no end of people shout at me that they were certain the ticket said something diff to what they were charged etc and have had to have the chat that customers can swap tickets and that the till is final (never a nice chat) It's not generally the salesman's fault these things go off, I'm just glad to have got the £25! it's still a reasonable deal and I'm thrilled with it, it's just been the experience that's dampened it a little :j
