Well thanks everyone for all the advice, but I'm taking the easy option and going to the pub before she gets home from her meal with work mates, she won't be hungry so she won't go to the fridge but I will not be home till late just in case.

I've used cillit bang to clean my fridge a few weeks ago its fine the fridge is over 2 years old. The paint is still fully attached. It seem very odd that it came off. To repairs get some rough sand paper sand down. Spray with primer and then several thin coats of white gloss. But unless you do an amazing job she'll notice eventually so fess up and take the heat like a man. I would repair first though to get some brownie points.

At least she'll never ask you to clean anything again!

    Repaint it...

I knackered a freezer yesterday, scraping ice off, stabbed the back, pin !!!!! hole, coolant leaking out, silly me stuck finger on it to try to stop leak and my finger froze and got stuck to the back of the freezer, had to pull hard to get it off.....

Finger has recovered, freezer has not.
