I've sold some old books for about that much on Ebay, but then others don't sell at all. And unless you know the proper words it's hard to describe anything.

I had a load of annuals. You need to check them very carefully, as children colour in the puzzle pages etc and then they're worthless. Also, the spines get damaged really easily.
Some are good, some aren't. Old Rupert annuals are worth looking out for, but they do need to be 70's really. Blue Peter annuals are supposed to be good, but my 8th and 10th ones won't even sell for 99p!
I had a rush on during the football for football annuals, but I think you've missed that now. Girlie ones like Bunty, Jackie, Twinkle etc sell steadily but not expensively.

Thnaks for your advice Juno. I am sure your advice will be appreciated and alos be helpful to others as well as myself. I thought I was best to give the annuls a miss- I kept thinking of how I used to colour in all my books when I was young, so expect most kids would be the same.
Old books dont attract me either but it seems in the auctions the boxes are too big to check through everyhthing so its pot luck. I wil pop them on ebay and see how they go.

I just sold a 1p book. It was one of 44 and only in good condition. I said as much in my description and added that it would be ideal for taking on holiday. Wonder if that is what swung it. I've never sold a 1p book before!

I have a Just William original that I just looked up and I can get £47 for it. And a tatty (and rather crap) 70's book £35 go figure

Just William's are good. I had a nearly original, and that was worth a bit.

Are you going to give them a go then? it won't cost you a penny to try them out for as long as you like

I might do, the 70's book I dont mind getting rid off because it was a naff story but obviously a collectors item or something

But I dont know about the Just William, I have had it since I was little and like the idea that its there for me to read to my kids, will have to think about that one.

I had a few others that would go for about a fiver and the rest were all 1p books which really dont seem like my worth while doing.

It seems that the time taken for Amazon holiday settings to kick in is a bit hit-and-miss ...

I 've found that it takes about 18 hours for my listings to be taken off Amazon. I reactivated my listings a couple of hours before leaving for the airport to come home, only to find I'd sold £92-worth during the two hour flight.

Went into a book packing and posting frenzy before I could unpack my case, with eight sales in 24 hours; since then, it's quietened down to around one a day.

Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
    Preemie hats - 2.
  • Hi elona, you're bound to get a little flurry now you mentioned it - it usually works.
After a good weekend with 5 sales I only sold one on Monday and none yesterday, you really can't plan or expect anything.

At the last auction I went to I bought 3 lots, one was videos and general adult DVDs, it was the 50+ DVDs I really wanted but there must have been about 80 childrens videos and I was pleasantly surprised to see how few were listed and at reasonable prices too, I suppose there are still a few video players in childrens rooms.
The other lots included lots paperback books amongst the usual non fiction that I really wanted, there must have been close to 600 but about 300 were German novels (I mean classic novels in German) they all looked very dated and a bit scruffy, I recycled 100 tatty ones, the Oxfam book shop would only take 20 and I freecycled the rest.
They were all from the one home (same vendor number) so I can't imagine how much these all cost when new, thousands I suppose.....
