Had a sale overnight! My ruthless book reading tactic has resulted in 4 more books to put on today. Watching and Ebay auction for 1800 books which finishes tonight and debating whether to take a chance.
    April £5 a day challenge- £15.05/£150
  • the general thought is that the buyers that give you 4 out of 5 are all teachers, they don't want to give you top marks, they want to give you something to aspire to :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Doctors and students are the other major culprits for leaving 4* with a 5* comment:rolleyes:

How about this for a classic?

4 out of 5: "It came more or less the next day, well packed and undamaged - what more can you ask." How about 5 out of 5?

    Or this?

4 out of 5: "the book was described well and the book was well wrapped the order was delivered on time i would gladly recommend the seller to a friend the book was in a exellent condition thanks" I forgot to enclose the tenner!

    The list is endless!

4 out of 5: "very quick, well wrapped and in excellent condition"

But this one hurt more than the 4's

3 out of 5: "fast delivery and truthful condition of book"

It's taken me a long time to not fret over the 4's, the fact that they don't damage my 100% helps - but the 3's niggle as they make my 100% dip down to 99% until they clear at the end of the month.

Thank you for listening - I feel cleansed now :rotfl:

ooooooohhhh - not sales, but just dug 5 books out that have never been read and i was going to throw away

im gobsmacked to be able to list 3 of them at £99 - and im the cheapest on each of them - im not convinced they will sell at this price, as using bookfinder, i can find them cheaper but they are mainly in the usa

the best bet - all of the books were given to me when i temped at the translators - and if they sold at that price, i would earn more than the company ever paid me

i will let you know if they sell, but they are extremely unlikely to be in a charity shop near year as are a very narrow field interest and the publishers didnt print them in thousands, just runs of 50's

wish me luck - my credit card would love it :rotfl:

hi sorry to crash your thread but I just wanted to ask a question.

I was looking at sellers fee's for books, its at 86p on completion, then a further 17.25% and then the fee for delivery.

Now if my book sells for £1 then its not even worth me bothering, but I have seen people sell books for 1p. How can they afford to do this? Surly they dont make any money on this?

Sorry if its a dumb question, I'm normally a buyer than a seller :o

Amazon give you a payment towards postage as well.

If you sell a penny book, then you end up with about £1.44 after fees. If you can post the book for less than that, then you're in profit.

The 86p doesn't apply to Pro-Merchant sellers either so they would make more profit on each book. :)

This thread HERE has some FAQs about Amazon Marketplace selling that might be useful.
  • Hi Wanty, I've copied this over from our help thread, the profits all in the postage allowance....

    selling fees and postage allowance

There are fees when you sell the book, these are made up of a fixed amount of 86 pence plus a percentage of it's sale price. You get to see what these are when you list the book, it shows you what the charges will be, and what you'll be paid so you can see if this is acceptable to you before you commit yourself to selling it, having said that you can withdraw it at any time. Amazon gives you £2.26 to go towards the postage (look here) so if it's a light paperback there will be a little money for yourself left over on just the postage allowance alone, this is how you can sell a book for as little as 1 penny and still have a small profit.

Thanks guys, well I have listed the ISBNs out of one of my boxes of books and will have a look to see if they are worth anything. :)

Stared selling on Amazon 21st May, just sold my 10th book, not a lot I know but one went for £8 which was an 12 year old Uni book so not bad really. I am really happy with Amazon, so much easier than Ebay and not having to pay fees until the book is sold is great. I have about 125 more to go and my home office will look a lot better so here's to hoping.

Good luck with the new thread I am already a big MSE fan
