  • Sorry,
I applied for the return of HSBC bank charges in 2008? I was offered £4000 they owed me far more and I

declined their offer. However at a later date I contacted them again and they will refund the charges as I

refused the offer.I did however say that I would accept their offer as part payment.I did refer this to the

ombudsman at the time and they upheld the HSBC decision. I was then and am now in financial hardship.

Is there anything that I can do?Please help

  • Wondered if any of you people out there could please help me?
I am in Hardship at the moment and I have been told that i could possibly try and reclaim bank charges because of it with Lloyds TSB? This would be great if I could as it would mean I could pay off my outstanding overdraft with them. Just wanted to know if this was so and how far back i could claim?
    Thank You!

I presume you meant that they would not refund the charges as you refused the offer?

If you have been to the FOS and failed your only other recourse would be to go to court but check very carefully on the reasons why the FOS upheld the HSBC decision. Perhaps, another letter to them first though or phone the FOS for advice? You have nothing to lose.
  • Hello to you all on this fantastic forum.
Just a quick question with regards to bank charges claims on hold, i am one of many who has to wait and see what develops, but a thought occured to me the other day that my bank has been sold( Northern rock) and would the new owners(virgin money) be liable for any charges should they be paid out at any time soon?

anyone have any thoughts on this please?

Kind regards and best wishes for 2012!:D

  • Hi
    Hope someone can give advice
I am on a DMP at present and would like to reclaim my overdraught charges from the above bank. The interest for a number of months is over £30 plus a £5 usage fee per month. Is it possible to reclaim these charges back or is it the norm what they charge
Thanks in advance for any replies

  • Hi All,
I am wanting to contact Natwest with regards to charges dating back several years. I also have an overdraft on the same account which I am trying to clear. I would be more than happy to use any money they gave me back to clear some of the overdraft. Should I mention this in the letter to them or see what their response is first?
    Many Thanks

If it were me, I would treat it as a separate issue and not mention it.

    Hello sammie09.

Why not contact your local Council's Welfare Rights Officer. These people provide free and confidential information and assistance on benefits, housing and debt issues.

They should be able to offer you the appropriate advice on how to manage your finances to prevent you getting into any more difficulties. and hopefully advise on how to approach the problem of dealing with the spiralling bank charges. Mention this site too and see if they feel whether the hardship rule applies and ask if they would be able to help you claim back your charges. Good luck
