Bank Charges Reclaiming Guide discussion

Ok back in 2009 I took out a loan with llyodstsb. All payments kept upto date up untill I lost my job due to council cutbacks. After losing my job I contacted the bank to get a months grace, which I was told I wasn't eligible. So I went to claim on my ppi. Which turnt out to be miss sold and useless(void due to being self employed).a week after being refused everything by my bank they took £125 from my account to pay loan. Even tho it was impossible for my account to go overdrawn. Llyods refused all other direct debits apart from their own loan repayment. They are now demanding £688 in charges via a debt collector.
After losing my job, my wife became seriously ill and was diagnosed with multiple scelorosis. I am now her full time carer. Living with 2 registerd disabled children(4 kids in total). I have claimed my ppi back which cleared other debts and replaced run down things around the home.
Can I do something about these charges, I feel at lose, and have buried my head in the sand and concentrated on my family. I want it sorted so I can stop making myself ill with stress.
Also after receiving my ppi claim the same bank are still trying to claim the loan back with the old ppi plan in place.0 -
Hi Newbie, Sorry!!!
Ive had all my statements back (barclays Additions Account) and worked out all my charges, I used the template for the letter and have everything ready to send. Just over 2ks worth of reserve fees, etc and I thought I would call the bank to find out the address as to send the claim letter and they told me that Barclays has had a court ruling saying that you can no longer claim the charges?? Is this true??0 -
Have you read through this thread at all?
You've missed the boat with regard reclaiming historical bank charges by some years.
Only if you meet the bank's "hardship" criteria will the Bank even consider refunding (some) RECENT charges. If you tell the Bank you are in hardship then ensure that you don't have payments for subscription television, gym membership, restaurants etc, as these are regarded as non-essentials.
You can forget about the £2K of historical reserve fees…

Hi, I have taken on the challenge of tracing ppi on my brothers loans/ hp and credit card. I have three initial problems.
How can I approach these institutions on his behalf- I presume this isn't unusual?
He has two loans with black horse( paid up in 2008 and 2009)and although we have the dates and an idea of the amounts involved from the Experain report this only gives the last 4 digits of the account numbers. How do I find the full numbers or will this be enough for black horse?
Do I fill in the fso forms or send an initial letter.
I hope you can help. I am on for a beer if I can sort all this for him and it is a long time since he bought me one!

I appear to have posted this on the wrong thread.

Actually I haven't read through all 1,251 posts or all of the 2,838 posts on the other link provided (didn't even know the other link was connected). It's very time consuming to filter out the really genuine helpful advice posts and let's just say not really helpful or non-advice posts.
Having read through those I could find to be helpful, I could not find one that specifically related to my original question which was regarding self employed business accounts. See my original question below (if the specific question about self employed business accounts and whether the same templates can be used has been asked before then I apologise in advance).
"Hello,
Does anyone know if a request for a refund (financial hardship) can be made on a self employed business account?
If so, are the guidelines, letter templates etc the same as in this thread moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/bank-charges (cannot put the full thread link in - ie the http bit at the front as I am a newbie poster)
Regards"
By the way I am aware that only hardship cases are considered (as indicated in my original post above), but thank you for confirming this.0 -
Hello
I have written to my bank this week to ask for all of my unfair charges to be paid back to me as I'm in financial hardship!!
I'm owed well over £5000 for the last 6 yrs!
I have just had a phone call from the bank saying as a good Will gesture they will pay me £500 back!
Do I accept this or shall I try fighting for more?
Thanks0 -

Hi
This sounds very similar to me! I rang the FOS and although they offered to write to the bank, they did feel it was a generous offer and as long as the bank acted in accordance with their t and c, the outcome might be the same! I feel disgruntled it wasn't more as they did recognise my hardship but as we weren't obliged to get anything - We decided to take the goodwill offer and run! Good luck, whatever you decide0 -
