Hello All.
I was transferred to a Barclays Additions chargeable current account (possibly before it was even called 'Additions'), with my permission, after a brief phone call from the bank enquiring about my overdraught. No mentions of insurance were made though I seem to recall the free will-writing service being proposed as a benefit. This was approximately fifteen years ago & I have now opted back to a free current account, in 2012 IIRC.
A cursory look at the latest pages on this thread suggest that trying to reclaim any of these charges is likely to prove a fruitless task after the OFT's decision & the time-lapse. I still have the current account & a business account with Barclays too. I don't use the current account as my everyday account, that is with another bank after Barclay's refusal to even consider a small loan which my other bank provided.
Could I ask for opinions on this, please?0 -

Have you read the OP?
Have you read the article linked to it?
My suggestion is then to read the MSE article on packaged bank accounts. If you still have a question on that topic, post in the thread it suggests in that article.0 -
Hi guys, first post! I am going to try and re-claim my bank charges and I think I have enough info on that, I am also going to try and claim my bank package fees. My question is do you think i should try claim both at the same time? or one before the other? I think in my case both the claims are relate-able to each other, so in my mind makes sense to start both at once. Just want to know if anyone thinks this would be wise/unwise.

You can request a refund of both in one letter, but unless you are in current financial "hardship" no charges will be refunded. In addition, if the charges are not recent, then you can expect the Bank to refuse any refund even if you are deemed as being in "hardship".
You may have better luck with the Bank package fees, however.0 -
I've had lots of bank charges over the 20 years I've been with Barclays. I was in financial difficulty for several of those years but now I am not. Can I still claim back the charges?

you need to be in CURRENT financial hardship and, even then, only recent charges will be considered for refund.0 -

Thanks for the reply. Will send off together and hope for a successful outcome:)0 -
HSBC has been subjecting me to overdraft charges for years. Since 2006 I haven't had an agreed overdraft. Surely they can't charge me for credit if a credit agreement isn't in place? Can someone advise me if i have a case for claiming these charges back?0

I can't see any circumstance where you'd get any historical charges refunded. However, if you can show you are caught in a cycle of charges which have been contributing to current "hardship" then the Bank may decide to refund charges from typically the last six months.
Do remember, though, that it's the Bank's "hardship" criteria you'd have to meet. So if you have subscription television, a gym membership or are eating out regularly etc then you may as well give up now.
The Banks won their court case over charges.0
