Bank: Santander
Amount Claimed: £810
Amount Refunded: £70.00 - So Far
I wrote a letter to my bank (Santander) on the 26/10/2011, literally two days ago! Today i have checked my online banking and have three refunds adding up to £70.00 on my account, and also the charges due to come out next month have all been revoked. Saving me a total of £105.00. Its not what i asked for but its better than nothing, very very pleased and it didn't take months it only took me TWO DAYS!Didn't in all honesty think i was going to get any sort of refund so very happy with the result so far. I am awaiting correspondence from Santander to tell me if that is all i will receive or if there may be more to come. Will keep you posted!!
Many Thanks MSE and Martin!:T
Close to the edge - close to giving up!!
I HATE SANTANDER!!0 -
I thought i'd post here too, i had written to lloyds to ask for my charges back and they have just sent the apparently usual "no" letter but they have offered to waive £100 of charges and have already refunded £100 so thats £200 claimed back already, i'm going to continue to the FOS and see if i can get the other £1100 back
i'm slightly happier now. i shall report back my findings later on.

In 2008 I wrote to Bank Smart (downloaded and recommended by Money Saving Expert). Unfortunately, I never received a penny and now this week I have received a letter/invoice from Bank Smart demanding £118.50 or I could face court costs. Totally Peed off and wish I had never listened to Money Saving Expert0

I was not aware that I would have to pay a penny to the company if my claim was unsuccessful. Had I known I would have taken on the case myself. Today I received a further copy of the invoice with a letter offering further options
1. Submit new ppi claim and pay a further £180
2 Pay the invoice of £118 case is closed
If I dont pay the £118 then I will incur costs - if I do pay then my case is closed.0 -

You shouldn't haven't to pay any costs for claiming back PPI, someone else please correct me if I am wrong here. I'd suggest posting in the PPI thread in the other part of the forum and someone like Di or Cappo would know much more than me.0 -

I notice that this thread is about Unfair Bank Charges.
I just thought i'd let anyone that doesn't know that, judging from some more experienced guys on here than me, you don't have a chance in getting anything back, not worth trying!
After the Supreme Court ruling, no one HAS won and no one WILL win.
That's what I was told yesterday, and i've wrote the letters to my bank, Natwest and got a big fat NO.
So, I put a claim in on Moneyclaim website, and showed that they owe me a fortune from 2005 to 2008 i think it is, yet everyone is telling me..
DON'T DO IT, NO ONE HAS WON SINCE 2009 AND IF THEY HAVEN'T, NO ONE WILL.
So i'm hopefully going to help someone here, by making them aware (as everywhere I looked on here, and other sites, it was all 'do it, do it, reclaim, you'll get your money back'), you won't. It's not worth it!
Sorry Nelly, it just isn't true that people won't get their money back, there have been cases of people getting their money back since the ruling.
This morning I have accepted an offer from Halifax bank to pay me back £330.00 of bank charges. It took less than 24 hours to for the Halifax to make me an offer after my initial complaint so it is worth your time to make a claim.
To give you a bit of background I was made unemployed earlier in the year and exceeded my overdraft by £1.45. The first I knew about it was when I received a statement detailing charges for exceeding my overdraft. For the next 4 months I received snowballing charges every month. I phoned the Halifax to explain that I was unable to pay the charges that were getting higher every month and sinking deeper into debt. The customer services and collections team were very unhelpful.
Then by chance I was fortunate enough to find this site and decided to make a complaint to the Halifax and ask for a refund on my charges. I adapted one of moneysavingexperts templates and used it to send an email to the complaints department at the Halifax.
Within a couple of hours I had received a phone call back from a very helpful lady who said she would look into my case. This morning she called back and I accepted her second offer of a refund.
I would recommend to anyone to at least try to make a claim. It didn't even cost me the price of a stamp!
Thanks for your help moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I sent a letter to Barclays requesting a refund of £1712. After 21 days I rang them as I havn't heard from them and they offered £260.
I said I was prepared to meet them half way, there response was "no go to the ombudsman" which is exactly what I did. The guy on the phone was lovely and I am just waiting for a form.
Fingers crossed0
