I very much doubt you'll get a better result than you have been offered.

At the end of last year I used Martins template to try to reclaim £2600 bank charges which I had accrued over 18 months. I was being charged £150 a month.my overdraft snowballed. It got to the point where my wages were being swallowed up as soon as I got paid. I therefore had to borrow money for essentials from family , friends and even work colleagues. I discovered that two weeks into each month I was suddenly able to withdraw money. I did so because I have a son to feed. This of course meant the charges continued. I am on sick leave due to stress which is why I did not address the situation sooner. When I sent my letter to HSBC I enclosed a copy of my sick note.
As soon as I complained HSBC began reversing direct debut payments and even cancelled some payments. The CAB advised me I could exercise my first right of appropriation and say I wanted to make payments. I did so and was told I could withdraw cash and make direct payments to companies. Remember I am off work with stress and I am now inundated with phone calls and letters from creditors due to late payments. I spent hours and hours on the phone and in banks. I was also charged Kate payment fees. Due to money laundering I was not able to pay my mortgage this way so had to open a new bank account.
When phoned HSBC regarding exercising first right of appropriation the lady admitted I had had a lot if charges and refunded the last £150.
The bank have said they do not have to refund me any charges. The FIS have said they cannot uphold my claim as the bank behaved sympathetically!!!
The bank have put me in further hardship and have not behaved sympathetically. I have appealed the FOS decision but do not believe it will change. I am appalled by the banks treatment of me. What can I do?

I think you need to be doing far more than trying to claim back Bank charges.
Post your Statement Of Affairs (SOA) on the "Debt Free Wannabe" board of this forum.

From what you say, you may want to be considering a debt Management Plan (DMP) or an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) rather than further appeals to the Bank.

Success - we've just been refunded £2000 from Barclays for my husband's Additions Account. We also have a joint additions account and argued that he shouldn't have also had to pay £16 a month for his account as we didn't use any of the benefits as they were covered by our joint account - we did ring them a few years ago to query this and they told us he needed the account as he had an overdraft. It took a couple of months from our written complaint but got the money back yesterday. Don't give up and don't use a reclaiming company as they will just take a percentage of your refund - good luck

Wrong thread. This is not about packaged bank charges.

    Well done though.

You were offered an amount that is far in excess of Lloyds' policy on overdraft charges.

  • Bank name: Sainsbury's
    Amount Reclaimed: Not specified
    Amount they paid:£503
The story: (I sent a letter to CPP based on the MSE template. CPP disclaimed responsibility, referring me to Sainsbury's Bank. Before I could write to Sainsbury's they telephoned me to discuss payment, quoting a refund for a number of years subs plus interest, the interest to be taxed at source. A cheque for circa £503-37 arrived promptly.
Thanks very much Martin et al!:T

Wrong thread. This is not about reclaiming PPI or CPP (it's not really clear what you have claimed).

Well done though, whatever it was.
  • Hi,
I am finally starting on the bank charge reclaim road after 6 years of hardship brought on by a long, messy divorce. My question is ...should you send the reclaim letter and bank statements to your own bank branch or to the head office, presumably at Canary Wharf. My bank is HSBC by the way.
    Many thanks for any help!
