Ah, it all seems SO easy when you're watching on the TV and presenters are spouting about reclaiming this, that, and the other. In reality, the whole system is so complicated and difficult for the person in the street to comprehend, I wonder anyone ever manages to get a penny out of the banks.
I've given up on unfair charges, I'm going for PPIs instead. I've been offered 25% charge from CurlyWig but am thinking about DIY.
My opinion of the banks is that they are STILL too big for their boots. Its all too complicated, and they know we can be bamboozled at the drop of a letter. Or am I mistaken in thinking that banks are run by *^*"^*" rather than lovely sympathetic people - like in the adverts... :(

If you are in hardship, or have been in hardship at the time of incurring charges, then please don't give up. :)

im with tsb i sat went through my account and listed every fee a then called up i had 18 fees totaling £225 from recent back to 2009 after a hour of going through it all i was told they banks won a rulling and only need to pay out 1 fee in the last 12 months so i get 2 fees back totaling £25 i asked for a manager and shes escilated it to a complaint to have it looked into further

Were you in hardship at the time or do you feel that their charges have contributed to any current hardship? If so, then you need to chase this up in writing immediately. You did initiate their official complaints procedure I take it? If not, then that's the route you need to go down to receive their final response and green light to go to the FOS. Don't give up. :)

    Hi there.

Listening the the PPI reclaiming article on the radio I was wondering, I haven’t heard anything about bank charges for yonks since the test case, what is the status of "Unofficial" Bank charges these days?

About 10 years ago I "settled" on a half payment from HSBC and wondered if there’s a green light to apply for the rest?

    Thanks

Sorry just found the guide.... Doesn't look good unless your in hardship when I'm sure they will offer a "token" amount.
  • Hi everyone,

First of all I'm a newbie to the forum and congratulations and sincere thanks to everyone involved with it and the website in general. Unbelievable resource!! Hopefully this is the right thread.

    ULSTER BANK

I recently completed the template letters for reclaiming bank charges while in hardship. In the last 2 1/2 years I lost my full-time job and a part-time business. Over the past 6 years I have been charged just over £5,000. The bank has told me that I was not in hardship for this entire period according to their records and today offered me £800, stating that that was all they could offer.
I also received £800 a few years ago for bank charges, however these were separate to the ones mentioned above. I would appreciate any advice or opinions on my current offer and particularly if you think that this is reasonable offer.

    Many thanks in advance

No. You've made your complaint, HSBC has offered redress to close the complaint, you've accepted it.

  • Following on from the information provided here regarding reclaiming bank account package fees, I had a look at my own Advantage Gold account with NatWest. I realised that in the same year NatWest offered me my Advantage Gold account, they had also sold me a separate accident policy. The Advantage Gold account offered an accidental death insurance benefit and so did the stand-alone policy they sold me. I mentioned this in my letter, which was adapted from the templates online. I sent this off at the beginning of last week, had a quick phone call from them clarifying a couple of points by the middle of the week and had just over a £1,100 credited to my account by the end of last week! Thanks very much for the great advice.

  • Name of Bank: Lloyds Bank
Amount Claimed + Interest = £5,844.06 (Charges for up to 9 years)

Letter sent 23rd April 2014 and i was called 25th April 2014 and told how sorry they were and of course their legal position. How the banks won the case in the courts blah blah....but then offers me only last six months unplanned overdraft fees refund totaling £215 which i declined. I felt this amount is totally unacceptable considering the hardship they have caused me and still in financial hardship. She tells me the offer is still on the table and "sort of with confidence" says I could take the case to the FOS.

I received the banks letter today detailing there standpoint as discussed over the phone. Now I've just began drafting a complaint letter to the Financial Ombudsman to see to the case further.

All I'm hoping for is a better result. Any thoughts??

Given that there is no legal basis for your claim, their offer is very generous. You would be better focusing on how to get your affairs in order. I would suggest a call to one of the debt charities.
