Porridge - Best for value and taste?

Try Flahanans Irish Porridge Oats, available from Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsburys. They are great0

I don't find the sachets at all filling, don't know why.
I make my porridge from whatever bag of oats looked a good price on the day - 28g of oats, a handful of frozen blueberries, some milk, microwave, and add a chopped banana - fills me up til lunchtime.
Alternatively, when I'm working nights and need my porridge at around 6am at work (or I get very very queasy!) I mix the 28g of oats and blueberries with a low fat yoghurt, put it in a lidded tupperware pot and leave it in the fridge at work overnight (we are not allowed to use NHS resources to feed ourselves so using their milk is not an option here!) When I need to eat it, it's fine cold, or you can gently warm it in the microwave and that's delicious and creamy - yum!0 -
I am a fan of the Oats so simple- all varietys. We did try the Sainsburys own version that you cook in the microwave and they were horrid. Stick with Oats so Simple if you want the lazy, pre portioned measure like me x0

Hi All
I too have an addiction to Oats So Simple.Love the Apple and Blueberry. But what I don't understand is how oats are advertised as a filling, low gi breakfast. I have mine at 8.00am and I'm starving by 9.00am.:(
Oats are a low GI food but it might be worth checking how much sugar added to Oats so simple. A high sugar content will actually raise the overall GI Index.
My GI diet is one of the reasons im back to making my own. I dont have to worry whats in it. I just make it with oats and skimmed milk and add a squirt of agarve nectar to sweeten.2013 Free Money - £363.44 Topcashback

Thanks that's helpful, mine was v stodgy and "thick" in texture this morning when I made inOats are cheap. So why skimp on really cheap oats which make porridge like wall paper paste.
Sainsburys Taste The Difference. 750g for about 80p

Strangely enough I prefer 'stodgy'. I can't stand the smooth stuff, reminds me of the stuff I used to give DD1 when she started on solids:D I'm perfectly happy with Asda Smart Price with a spoon of syrup or brown sugar.0 -
Cheap and cheerful oats are much the same as the branded ones.
However, the jumbo oats are much nicer (and more expensive)
Don't get me started on Ready Brek. No matter how much syrup and cream I put on it, it still tasted and looked like wallpaper paste. I gave the rest to the birds during the cold snap - they loved it!An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

most definitely mornflake oats from Home Bargains about 45p a pack. 1 cup of oats, 3 cups of semiskimmed milk into microwave for 12 mins while i jump into shower. Then out of shower and kids are up and sorted as the smell of porridge wafts upstairs.:j0

I got some Aldi Harvest Morn oat cereal with golden syrup, thinking I was cutting costs. I think they forgot to put in the golden syrup! I'll stick to Oats-So-Simple as it has a much nicer flavour and blow the expense! (Though I usually stockpile when it's on 2 for 1!)"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

My other half doesn't like thick porridge so we got some Ready Brek a couple of months ago (neither of us had had it for years) and we've been hooked every since! It's very quick and easy to make, doesn't stay hot long enough to burn your mouth (which we used to do with porridge) and the supermarket own versions (Tesco's and ASDA's) are just as good and cheaper.0

Oats so simple is 2 minutes in micro, no mess
The scots oats take 4 minutes and I can't make these without them exploding in the mirco :eek:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
