Im like most of you on here and only buy a large bag of shop own make oats. It's only my 9 yr old son who has porridge and he makes his own breakfast in the morning, just milk, a teaspoon of sugar and zapped in the microwave for 2 mins
it seems to turn out ok.
I use them more for cooking my nutty flapjacks that vanish within 2 days of making themGetting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

Oooh a lot of you use all milk.
I always use mainly water (with a splash of full fat), cheap oats in a bag, into 'the porridge bowl' as it's known in our house, zap for 3 minutes...mmmmm.
We all like a teaspoon of sugar on the top, a nice wide flat bowl, and a splash of milk.
DS (3) asks for this when he's really hungry at snack time too !
It's always a great standby for the kids when they are feeling poorly.
Definately my favourite basic foodstuff. Not just a sucker for sweeties..:o0 -
i buy tesco value porridge oats and use semi skimmed milk with them then we just add whatever topping we like differs each time raisins sugar golden syrup honey etc............ my 6ft strapping 15 year old eats this when he comes home from rugby practice says he prefers it to grabbing a bag of chips with his mates on way home so much so that he brings his mates home now to eat it as well !!!!!!!!!!!!:eek:Paul Walker , in my dreams;)0

I got a free scoop ages ago to measure ours, I think the offer has finished now though but you could try emailing to ask.
I don't 'do' porridge _pale_ but I usually just make own brand 'ready brek' according to the pack and chuck in a spoonful of jam/nutella/honey/syrup.... for DH and DS1 and get no complaints0 -
I too prefer the taste and texture of Scotts Porrage Oats, and have a nice bowlful every morning... the large box lasts for ages and I did once try cooking it in the microwave and it was horrible... much better cooked the old fashioned way in a pan on the hob... I prefer mine made with skimmed milk , the a sprinkle of brown sugar or syrup.. my my tasty..0

I might have to try half milk and half water, one step at a time :rotfl:
Why the salt? A few have said add a pinch of salt...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Well the porridge was nicer than usual, nice texture, very nutty
But my goodness, it made such a difference to the flapjacks (must stop making these or I'll not get through a door). When I cut them warm sometimes they break up a bit and you end up with bits(okay as I eat them!) but these cut perfectly, maybe because they are very flat?
I also thought they tasted nicer, hard to tell with the rest of the household as they gobble anything and everything
I know what you mean about flapjack - so EASY to make and so easy to eat! Especially when you make them in the the micowave and they come out all soft, then they cool down just enough to eat ..............
Incidentally why do they call it will power? Surely for most of the time it should be won't power! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
