We get a bag from tesco or co op for about 80p - lasts ages. I dont like the "posher" rolled ones from waitrose (or m and s) - which are still only about 90p as they go too mushy for me. I eat these every day because they are so low in calories but fill you up til lunchtime - helps my dieting.

That would be my downfall. I buy Oats so Simple because its portion controlled....for some reason opening another sachet is a no no but I can imagine finding it a bit too easy to add some extra oats and milk if I was measuring it myself.
    My willpower is LOW!

Has anyone tried the sweet cinnamon oss? I got some today and am very much looking forward to trying it in the morning!
If my words are missing letters then please excuse me....my keyboard is a tad dodgy!!
  • I use 1oz of value tesco oats per person, with a mug of milk per person.

I have measured 3oz into a mug so i know how much it looks like now. so its dead easy every morning.

I then microwave it in a big mixing bowl for 8 mins.
I have chopped banana in mine, son likes raisins and syrup, husband just has his plain :)

I always have a bowl of Scott's "old fashioned" Porage Oats every weekday morning and it's so simple and quick!

I cup of oats, pinch of salt plus about 2/3rd pint of semi skimmed milk into a small pan, bring to boil then simmer 6 minutes then serve with brown cane sugar = perfection in a bowl!

Have never owned a microwave and have no intention of ever owning one - would rather set my alarm 4 minutes earlier.

I too prefer the taste and texture of Scotts Porrage Oats, and have a nice bowlful every morning... the large box lasts for ages and I did once try cooking it in the microwave and it was horrible... much better cooked the old fashioned way in a pan on the hob... I prefer mine made with skimmed milk , the a sprinkle of brown sugar or syrup.. my my tasty..

  • I don't like the Quaker oats (in the box) for some reason, but use the Sainsbury's own brand (in a big purple bag) for lunch every day. 70g oats, 210ish g 1% milk and a handful of Basics frozen mixed berries. Put it in a pot in the evening, take it to work then microwave for two lots of 1min 20 secs. Delicious! And such a cheap lunch - less than 20p at a guess.
  • Hi

I used to buy oats so simple but very expensive for family of 5! I now buy whatever is on offer, I measured the oats and milk used in oats so simple and have measure cups! I buy whatever is on offer, quaker, scottich porrage, this week i have asda luxury rolled oats as they were 2 for £2, half a cup of oats and once cup of milk 2 mins in microwave and a lovely teaspoon of golden syrup, jam, cocoa powder, anything really, taste just the same !

The OH buys the normal porridge oats and puts them through a blender.

A couple sf spoonfuls in a wide top dish with skimmed milk only takes two Min's in the microwave.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I too have become addicted to the sachets - I managed to stock up ages ago when they were on BOGOF, but probably still more expensive then the diy version.
But.... they are very convenient - I take them to work, so can have porridge there with minimum hassle if I have missed breakfast at home, for a filling lunch, or just to warm me up from the inside in this grotty weather.
I have got some diy porridge oats - and even got some golf=den syrup, so I will make an effort to go the cheaper route - especially once my stockpiles run out ;)

I used to like the value oats but found my portion sizes were creaping up- I weighed in once at 65grams for a bowl!

I skipped to have oats-so-simple then went onto supermarkets own preportioned sizes (obviously you can tell my waistline is more important to me then my bank balance!) but I got a bit fed up with the tastelessness of it (I don't 'do' sugar or flavorings fruits in porridge.

I now go for jumbo oats and have the Dorsets porridge oats in sachets- they are fantastic! They are in 30g bags and so far only Waitrose and Tesco sell them for a whopping £1.89 for 10 packets. But they are great and I don't mind paying over the odds. They actually have a texture you can bite and not just swallow without thinking, they taste great too.
