i've just seen this and i wanted to share it with you...

    http://www.possessed.me.uk/04_possessed_martin_hampton_Watch_Possessed.html

the 2nd and the third people are like me...but i've not got that much stuff.

it's made me cry watching it :(

I watched it too and yes I feel sorry for those people but I can't really identify with it. They don't throw anything out. I can understand emotional attachment to certain items but empty milk bottles and washing up liquid bottles and the cardboard from the toilet rolls, used cotton wool.... Some of those houses are just filthy.

The pictures posted here or in the toiletries thread are nothing like that. Yes people have lots of stuff but it's nice clean stuff which could be sold on ebay or at car boot sales or given to charity shops. A bit like the guy with all the cameras and electronics I suppose.

  • No worries CL it's pretty scary stuff tho isn't it...it is OCD, and seeing that has made me realise that's what it is :(

I couldn't get the film part to work.

Hope your little girl is on the mend. Its so awful when they hurt themselves like that.
  • hiya ZaraZara, i like this thread too :) and hello :)

I know my house is messy but it's not filthy my bloke would do his nut!!! :rotfl:what i meant was that the 2nd man bids on tons of stuff on ebay and then ends up with duplicate items...i have been known to do that so i see elements of myself in him and the Woman who was saying she always had to have 2 of everything from an early age and was an only child...i can see myself in that...my brother came along when i was 8 and my parents separated at 11 and we lived with separate parents so it was like being an only child...so buying more stuff is to compensate for not having the right kind of 'love' (not my comment that of my psychotherapist)

  • My house (well, my part of the house) is actually filthy. I bet some of you would think I was a right disgusting pig, but it gets like that when I'm feeling down. I do eventually tidy it up, I just do it in burst when I feel like it.

I feel sorry for those people because I know I could easily turn into one of them if I lived alone and didn't have someone to nag at me 24/7.

But anyway... did I mention that I went back to Asda to try that tshirt on. Well I did, and actually it didn't look as good as I first thought. I was in between sizes so the smaller size looked too tight and short, and the larger size was too loose. So I put it down and felt very happy with myself. I did end up buying a massive 250g bag of crisps for £1, but shhhhh.

    Hello,

oh how I wish I was at your weight in your signature:)

    Hi all

You know what they say about de-cluttering and weight loss. By the time we've cleaned out the wardrobes we'll all be Size Zero :D as long as we don't clutter them up again!

Salesaddict, I'm glad that the thread is helping you and I'm happy that you started it off as I think a lot of us relate to the cravings that seem to 'possess' us at times.

Completelylost - oh no, not crisps :)

    Hi to zarazara

verynewmoneysaver - are you swopping for clothes or something else?

Velocity - I'm an only child and I think all my addictions came because I was always wanting a sister or a best friend that wanted to be with me 24/7 and if you don't have it, you tend to try and find comfort elsewhere.

Do the rest of you feel your buying is a sustitute for something?
  • Hi Angela I've swapped an elemis toner I wasn't using for an M&S necklace, and some Monsoon shoes that were slightly too big for a Per Una blouse, as I need a decent white blouse. I'll try not to swap for things I don't really need as it'll just add to my clutter problem. It does give you a bit of a lift though without spending too much money. I went to a swap party a few months ago and was really pleased with what I got rid of and what I came home with!
  • ^They were sour cream and chive flavour, I couldn't resist :S

I always wanted to be an only child - I know how bad that sounds, but it's true! I'm the eldest of four... never a dull (or quiet) moment in our house. Nothing was ever my own until a few years ago when we got a bigger house and I actually have my own room. when I was younger and wanted to go out with friends, I always had to take my little sisters with me in their buggy - I hated it but knew my mum needed the time to clean up, etcetc.

To be honest though, I was still lonely as up until our late teens when my brother and I 'grew up', none of us really got on. I still don't get on with my sisters which is a bit sad given that I practically brought them up... but my brother is like a really good friend now.

Anyway enough nostalgia. This will be another day of dodging temptation as I must go out later to post an ebay parcel. I'm going to return the Debenhams coat while I'm there :)

My main task for today is to weed out three good pairs of shoes and three items of unworn clothing for listing on ebay tomorrow :o

I think I am. In 2008 I had the perfect job and the perfect boyfriend and was so happy, that all came to a conclusion in feb 2009 and ever since then, I have gone shopping a lot more regular as im bored and its my something to do because a lot of my friends are settled down or dont live local. Another thing is, I have three sisters who are hopelessly glam and much older than me, so I have to try and keep up with the Jones's so to speak with any parties etc as I have little or no confidence. I tend to be at my Happiest when walking round the Westfield shopping centre in Derby and popping into the food court for something I shouldn't eat and to read my book for half an hour with the noise of people about :) sad arent i :S

I was considering the thread thats on here at the moment "give it up for lent" or something, and was really considering giving up shopping - or trying to. But I can't as I have a shopping trip booked with my mum before she goes away next Friday so will want the freedom to treat myself then :( So shall have to give this more thought, perhaps a more strict budget than I normally have or have a small list of "staples" I need to buy for my wardrobe.

I did change my mobile phone plan yesterday. Not in contract with 02 nor do I really need a new phone for now, so I went from £35 to £20 for the same thing and shall get the contract when I actually need a new phone :)

Todays budget: £5.60 its all I have in my purse and im not allowing myself to draw any money out.

Who else finds, when they have a very small amount in their purse like say £5 they come home with a £1 or £2 still, but if you go and draw £20 out, you still only come back with a tiny amount because you find things you need! I hope someday all cash machines let you draw £5s out, I know Barclays does inside but thats faffing!

Yep this is me, the only difference is that i feel the need to spend every penny. I never have any cash in my purse because of this and the whole cycle starts again because i have to go to the cash point if i need cash.

I'm going to get my turbo lister ready for ebay free listing cos i have soo much junk. After watching the hoarder/possessed video, I am determined not get to that point.

My main probelm is parting with things that i have spent a small fortune on that is too tatty for ebay or even the charity shop. I know i just need to get rid but its sooo hard. I don't really have an emotional connection or anything like some of you do, just the actual value. Chucking £100 in the bin is not easy but i know thats where it needs to go.
