Any ideas where to post my query then? I came across this thread purely by accident and thought somebody might have some ideas for me!

    Hi Mrs B

If it was me in your situation I wouldn't be spending it on anything much until I gave myself some time to think. From what you've said, you've had years of being frugal and now you don't much fancy anything.

You can look online at websites like 43things.com where people have made lists of goals they want to achieve in their lifetime (sometimes called Bucket Lists) perhaps there is something you fancy doing that you haven't had the time or money to do before.

The thing about life is you never know what is round the corner, so even though you don't know what to do with it now before long something unexpected might have happened and you will be needing to use it, or else you might find a new purpose in life and decide to follow it.

Whatever you decide, don't let your new found wealth become a worry because then it's no different to worrying you haven't got enough.

Yes you are so right. All the same, I would like to treat myself to something! It probably sounds crazy to most people on here that I have no wish to spend any extra money, and that I don't know how to break my 30-year habit! (There are worse habits I can think of!)

Will look at 43things.com later - thanks for that.

I am fairly new to computers and this is the first forum I have ever joined. Do you know of a more appropriate place on this forum where I can post this?

    Thanks

    http://www.my50.com/ideas.php

Take a look at that site and see if anything intersts you.

Get hold of loads of catalogues on all sorts of subjects e.g. gardening, clothes, household, jewellery, recipes, crafts, hobbies, travel, books. Look through the magazines at the shops - anything you fancy?

Through all your years of being frugal is there anything you might have wanted to buy or do?

It's hard to tell you what to do as everyone is different.

I don't think it's strange to be reluctant to spend the money, I think that's a better attitude to going mad and wasting it.

As to where else to post this - there is a forum about general conversation this might fit into, but some of the people might be a bit difficult so stay here if you prefer.

Are we allowed to ask how much money you want to spend? That might help with giving advice.

    Eveninggg,

I think I'm having a mid-20s crisis at the moment. Either that or premature menopause. I don't know where I'm at half of the time and I'm such a moody !!!!!!!!! I can't blame it on caffeine this time either, as I've been rationing myself for a while now.

I went into town today, to return some shoes (£33) and a shirt I bought (£20). I didn't buy anything! Did try a top in H&M but I was more concerned about missing the 2.30 bus (and ending up on the 3pm one, CRAMMED with evil schoolkids) so left before I let myself impulse buy anything.

FE: I will PM you my fbook name. If anyone else wants to add me, let me know and I'll PM my name. Though pls don't use my real name on here :)

Good luck with your ebaying. I'm hoping to spend the weekend listing whatever I can find... though usually the reality is that I list about 10 things then I conventiently "get distracted" and do bog all!

    MrandMrsB:
welcome to the site, you chose a good place to post as we're all lovely here ;) I go from one extreme to another when it comes to money. I really do feel like you do (sometimes, believe it or not!)

If I had a lot of money going spare, there are so many things I would like to do/see/buy. You only live once, so enjoy it. Just because something isn't a necessities, doesn't mean that you shouldn't have it (if you can afford it). Anglea's ideas are good and I think your hubby has the right idea investing in his hobbies. But at the ame time I wouldn't force yourself to spend money just for the sake of spending it. I'm sure you will find something to spend it on.

    NG:
I'd be tempted to use banked savings, just to avoid opening the tin (is it one of those where you have to use a tin opener to get at the money? I once had one of those and it lasted all of three days before I delved into it :rotfl:).

    Hi all

CL hope you feel better, perhaps it's because you haven't found your path in life yet. I hope it's not because of a PRM, I had one of those straight after ds2 was born and it wasn't nice.

Today is 'judgement day' LOL as the divorce papers turned up and a request for my financial form which as you know, I haven't finished :(

Of course it's typical that when you procrastinate and get a deadline, that other things emerge that you have to deal with at the same time. I've gone a lot on my mind, without having to rush the form.

I also realise that if I lose the weight I managed to gain this year, I can fit into anything in my wardrobe. I have such a panic of an unexpected invitation because nothing really fits. So for the last 4 days I started another fitness regime, I think it's about time I crossed off everything on my goals list.

Ziggles I know you're reading - please say hi to us

I hope NGlady is having a good time this weekend.

    Hi ladies
    How are you all doing?
Hope you're having a good weekend.
I am home for the weekend just chilling.
Managed not to spend a penny and Clarks or Next on Thursday despite having the spending itch in me!
Off to Birmingham for a long weekend (never been) on Wednesday to see some rellies and go to a church conference so looking forward to a short work week. It's been manic lately and i'm getting a quite frazzled by it!
Seems summer was in May this year oop North- the weather has been dreadful lately.
@Anglea- how long do you have to finish the forms?
@CL- maybe a visit to the doctors for a blood test at least to find out what's going on?
@MrandMrsB- maybe make a list of those things important to you and that you would like to do but haven't yet (a la bucket list) and see if you can maybe do something that you can see yourself carrying on doing in the future
Must go and find my eyedrops- itchy eyes seem to be my hayfever thing this summer!
    Goo'nite!

    Evening,

Hi ziggles, nice to see you psot. I feel your pain re: hayfever, I feel like I have a permanent cold, people don't realise how much of a PITA it is. I hope you enjoy your weekend xx

Anglea: how far are you now with the forms? Have they set a date for when they need the forms? Whenever you mention your forms, you remind me of the terrible mess I was in a few years ago with the student loans company... it turns my stomach as it went on for so long before I finally got sorted (and part of the time I ignored it, hoping it would all go away... but it didn't!) It has put me off using any form of credit ever again. I used to wake up on a morn and it was the first thing I though of and it made me feel sick! :o

As for premature menopause... I hope not, but I know it can happen. I did something constructive today during another of my hysterical episodes. Will mention it in a later post, though it's nothing particularly interesting or amazing.

I'm the same with goals. Very much an all-or-nothing type of person who rushes into doing everything ALL AT ONCE when I have a sudden burst of enthusiasm. I really must to learn to pace myself, otherwise I end up overwhelmed and quitting things midway through.

PS: belated happy birthday NG! I knew I forgot something in my last post :S

    Hi girls

Ziggles lovely to see you on here again, you were very restrained at the shops, I wonder if that was luck because you didn't see anything or you were being disciplined?

I agree, the weather is ridiculous at he moment.

Hope you enjoy your time away and the sun gets out.

Forms - supposed to be done straight away but no actual date as such. So there is something I have to sign and return ASAP and I can't do it until Wednesday as it's inconvenient before then and when I'm there I'll make an appt for the end of the following week so that will give me some extra time. Lots of the questions will still be unanswered because I need advice how to fill them in.

Sorry CL if I'm getting your traumatised talking about the forms You'll have months of it from me before everything is finalised :)

Hayfever and eyes. Tell me about it LOL

    I've got a question.

I've had dry eyes and irritation for years so use optrex liquid or the eye drops. A couple of weeks ago I got a bad pain in the back of my eye and it didn't feel like irritation but an actual ache if I rubbed it and it started getting worse. This was during a time I didn't use the drops as I didn't think they were irritated. I was considering seeing the doctor. The next day I mowed the grass and got itchy eyes so used the drops. Few hours later I realised the pain had completely disappeared.

The same thing happened again this week with the pain and I got the drops out - it cleared.

    Any of you have this?

You won't be far from me there Ziggles!

I was in Birmingham yesterday. I went to the Birmingham Hippodrome to see the ballet Coppelia. I will probably be there one day next week too as there is another ballet on Wednesday to Saturday. It's one of things I like to spend my money on.

Let me know if you have any free time to meet for a coffee.
