I have taken my eye off the ball and have not put anything on my spreadsheet this month. I have loads of receipts, and a few things in my head!

Had a £3 off a £30 spend voucher for Sainsburys where I went this afternoon. They didn't have the shampoo I wanted on offer so instead of spending less I spent up to the £30 on things I don't really need yet. I must stop doing this. Back to £5 a day I think for May - I am off on holiday near to the end of May so it will be a good idea to reduce my stock of food a little.

However, I will need to buy some holiday clothes - so spending will be higher because of that

Ziggles, gtive Primark another look. I got a really nice oatmeal coloured one for a tenner and it feels lovely (and looks good, and covers boobs)
    ** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **
    ** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
    **SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.
  • Hi ladies,

ziggles - sorry to hear of your cardigan trauma. I hope you find something suitable. The only place I've ever bought cardies that last is Zara. I have one I bought in Dorothy Perkins 8-years ago (£6 in the sale!) and it's still going strong, but sadly the quality of their stuff is nowhere near as good as it once was :(

frogletina - it's so easy to overspend by stocking up on things... it always feels like a good idea at the time and it probably is moneysaving, but at the same time I sometimes feel like stocking up on necessities is just an extension of my binge-shopping behaviour. Not that I'm saying it's the same for you.

NG - Primark... I have a love-hate relationship with them. Their accessories and nightwear are amazing, but (try to) avoid everything else. I saw the £5 sunddresses and they had some lovely designs for anyone who they fit. Unfortunately with my boobage I had no chance. Also a lot of their prices are catching up with New Look/DP/H&M. Like their vests are £3 and H&M's are only £3.99. But their jewellery is bargainous - I see similar in Accessorize for quadruple the price.

Anglea: unfortunately no drawers :( But still, it houses all of my pc equipment, so no more hoovering around my printer/speakers/etc!! Sounds sad but it feels like quite an achievement to have bought something I actually needed... we'll not mention the other 100s of things that I bought this month that I don't need :o

I could easily live on what I have here for a while - but I was very poor at one time when I was a single mother, and at the end of the week there was sometimes nothing in the cupboard except salt! I managed to provide what was needed by keeping to a very strict budget.

Looking back, I struggled for a long time on the bare necessities and I know I no longer have to do that. It took me a while to realise that I could buy what I wanted. Maybe it has now just got a little bit out of hand

Just a quick hello girlies :)

    How are we all?

I am feeling all the joys of spring today - I expect I will until 9:30 when I sit down at work then again from 5pm as woooohooo I am then broken up for easter :D then I have one more working day until May :D YAY

Decided on a little list of tasks to do this holidays which will hopefully set me on the straight and narrow...

    Firstly.

A: Open a ISA - or some sort of other non-access bank account which I can access if I needed it at the counter. I use another bank account at the moment to put any surplus in and its SO easy to access it its stupid !

B: buy a money tin - one of those can opener ones. I want to start putting spare change in.

C: Longer term - whenever I put money in my Isa/bank account via funds transfer I am going to write on the 'reference' where you can put a personal msg what its for. So stuff like. 'Didn't buy look magazine' or 'didn't buy dorothy perkins dress' etc etc so I can really monthly/3monthly whenever statements come realise that my savings came from stuff i didnt even want :)

I always split my disposable into seperate weekly sums. But I always get into the mind set that end of the week that is 'spare' got a shock when i thought of it this way. each week I have around £20 (spare) so ive worked in my current job for a year thats £1040!!!!!! that tbh has just been wasted :( terrible really.
either need to get into the habbit of saving weekly too or using my disposable practically and have it on a monthly 'when its gone its gone' basis. Which i was doing.. then using my savings account to surplus it... not clever lol

D: close loads of little 'online savings' accounts i've got with lloyds - they was useful when paid weekly, not so much anymore. Also go through credit record closing any stuff like la roudete etc I don't use but are just there on my statement. HOWEVER question ladies - I read somewhere its not best practise to close them all in one go as that looks suspicious?

Do banks open next wednesday do u think :S

    Hi all

Sorry NGlady I have no idea about bank times or that closing down accounts = suspicious.

You sound motivated to save, NG. The banks should be open on Wednesday - don't see why not as it's not a public holiday.

Why would closing your accounts all at once look suspicious?
I always leave mine open anyway... I must have about 30 from over the years..!

Those money tins are good. They have nice ones in Home Bargains, I think they're only £1.
    ================
I have a question ladies... I bought a necklace in Primarni and it snapped after one wear. It was £4. Would you return it or cut your losses & accept that Primark jewellery is not made to last? :o
