Does anyone else also have a bit of a thing about yankee candles like me? I have so many I hang onto as I love the smell and worry I can't replace them if I use them-so ridiculous as I am sure the smell will go eventually if I don't use them! I currently have 6 small jars, 22 tarts and 19 scented tea lights. Sigh. Such a waste of money, even though I never pay full price. I am glad I happened on this thread!

Hi SuziQ - do you post on Shopping Telly as well as your name seems familiar?

I have a real obsession with buying YC whenever I get the chance. I already have a stash of tarts that I ordered from Yankeedoodle before Christmas as part of their Poppy Appeal but it seems that I always NEED to have the new fragrances. Managed to not buy the latest TSV of them however have since been out and bought the new ones. Last week I was in Denton where I used to work and went into the card shop there to buy some samplers as I've run out. They didn't stock any so rather than walk away empty handed I bought 4 more tarts then a couple of days later went to an Outlet near me bought the samplers I wanted and bought more tarts. Some of them were reduced though!

Then when I was stashing them away I found a set of Christmas tarts that I hadn't burnt and tried not to look at the three jars that I still have left over from a TSV last year.

I've got Lemon Lavender burning downstairs, Beautiful Day on the landing (not sure about this one as it smells like washing powder to me) and Amber Glow in the bathroom.
Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

Valm & SuziQ, I think you are both from the Shopping Telly forum as I recognise both your user id's.

Valm have you tried Darlene's tarts from the forum as they are fab and much cheaper than Yankees, am burning Pomegranite Noir in the bedroom, Philosophy in the hallway, Chanel Chance in the lounge, Monkey breath in the kitchen.

I have gone off Yankee candles as a couple I have had have smoked even though I have trimmed & kept the wick's short.

Hi debbidoodle. I do keep meaning to try Darlene's tarts but then Yankeedoodle have a great offer on or there's a TSV and I ended up buying YC again. I don't burn candles on my mantlepiece anymore as I got soot marks up the chimney breast with one once which we had to paint over! I love the tarts because I can change them more often however do think that some of the fragrances are synthetic smelling ie Beautiful Day, Cafe au Lait (this was horrible and smelt like curry) and Tahitian Tiare Flower gave me a headache.

I've got some Yankee Points on Yankeedoodle to spend as well so will be returning there for my next lot. x

  • Forgive me thread for I have sinned.....
Before I cough can I just say my friend is seriously ill and turning to toiletries was like a drug for me? Sniff. My friend has cancer and my heart is breaking. I'm doing lots for her but when I'm not around her I'm like a lost puppy.... My sin was a late night trip to Tesco to buy:

Lo'oreal powder (used this before) - it's a pressed powder and, actually I have none at the moment, so far ok.
Max Factor creme powder - really old fashioned stuff. Think my mum may have used this. It was only about a £5. I think I'm getting frustrated with not having a quick make-up where the colour is good. Still not achieved that....
Nivea soft - keep reading about it on here. Yep as part of my emotional turmoil included opening the stuff when I have other stuff open.
Make - up sponges. IN fairness I didnt have any of these left.

So 2 out of 4 were bad purchases. I am really annoyed with myself. It's so good to have to come onto here and confess. It helps me refocus.

Sorry for the long sniffly post. Really shows what drives us sometimes eh.:A

I bought some lovely candles in asda before christmas. Orange scent and 20p for 3 (So I bought 10 packs?). DH also bought the red tealights (winter berries and spice I think). So we have ots to use up. I am actually using them though which is quite impressive!
No more toiletries used up yet or even herbal teas :( but I think the shower gel will be used soon.

Consider yourself well and truly forgiven.
I am so sorry about your friend. I don't know which is worse the cancer or the treatments for it.
I really identify with the feelings in your post. We just have to keep trying and as you say refocus. I suppose its part of that philosophy of changing the things we can and accepting the things we can't. Hope this makes sense.:o
  • I have finished:

    Dermalogica Ultracalming Cleanser
    Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream
TIGI litre bottle of Headshot (pink bottle) Conditioner
Large bottle of apple bubble bath
Trevor Sorbie Long Hair Curl Cream (now discontinued :( - I wish I had a massive stash of this!)

I go though conditioner much quicker than shampoo so I had 2 half full litre bottles of TIGI Foxy Curls shampoo and TIGI Headshot shampoo; I've put them into one bottle to create more space (I didn't notice much difference between them anyway).

I was bad, and bought litre bottles of Daniel Galvin Salon Clear Gloss, Salon Intensive Conditioner and Protein Conditioner from TK Maxx, but they were an excellent deal and I need extra conditioner to use with the shampoo I mentioned above.

Thanks salesaddict. :A That means a lot. When I'm busy I'm ok, but things slow down at the weekend and my heart/mind get sniffly. Good to see you're still focused on the challenge, well done you! :T Thanks for the encouragement. I'm busying myself with lots of challenges. :A

Thank you so much for your welcome and advice. :T I think you've hit the nail on the head about not finishing things because then they're gone as I am aware that is why I haven't used up some stuff such as my Sanctuary Mandalular Body Souffle. I really don't have much make up (concealer, bronzer, couple of eyeshadows, eye pencil and 2 mascaras) and I don't hoard that in the same way though the majority of it is No7.

I have a headache now! No wonder I had so many freebie Boots make up bags:o.

Oh well, here's to my first full day of using the flaming stuff. I do commit to not buying more and I will be avoiding Boots like the plague for the time being. I do worry about the Tresemme conditioner but my friend assures me that if I use the others up first it won't be a huge problem for my hair. Hope she's right because if i go looking for it I may get dragged into a bogof or similar so we'll see how my resolve holds up on this one.

Thank you all for your supportive comments and welcome. :A I'll try and not get any lines!;)
