No buying toiletries in February challenge!

Hello all!!!!
Mags30, I got the moisturising gloves at mum's and am going to try them tonight, thank you sooo much! They look gorgeous. :A
Oh poor thing. That's happened to me a few times, it is so upsetting!!! What is it with some hairdressers, they don't seem to listen when you say you just want a trim! One thing you could do (if you have straight hair) is to straighten it, it does make it look a little longer and might help a bit.
I agree that you should call them again to say that you are really not happy with it, and see if they offer you a discount on your next visit.
Well done on not buying the dear shampoo though. :T
I don't really TBH, I am very picky about what I try, esp with this challenge. I don't buy everything new that's advertised, well sometimes I do buy something if it's had really amazing reviews, and I did queue up for a bottle of P&P after the Horizon prog. :rotfl: I love the Body Shop (but only ever buy on glitches as their prices have gone daft in the last few years!! I don't watch QVC as I find the presenters reallt patronising, so that saves me a fortune.
Sounds beyooootiful!! Why does your OH want to go swimming on the way home though?????????
we go either sat or sun night at the local leisure centre /hotel that we are members of,it closes at 8 and as we are going to the cinema tonight it means we have to go tomorrow. When I say swim what I really mean is sit and relax in the spa/sauna/steam room:):):)(we try and do a proper swimk in the week)
tried swimming on friday but as soon as I started I had the pain in my shoulder and pins and needles in my arm:(:(
now booked 2 rooms in hotel in Portsmouth so we can go to sons degree ceremony then drive back to cambs late on the thursday and off to Stratford on thr friday, after that anything could happen as OH arranging it so may well end up in the Lakes!(no offence to people who live there,I used to go a lot as a child but its a long way from home now and I'd still prefer a warm beach!)0 -
I'm glad I found this thread-I forgot that my daughter had given me two of the boots £5 vouchers. I have a huge stash of Liz Earle stuff (I have taken too much advantage of offers on her site plus have a couple of TSV's I haven't started yet) but one thing I am almost out of is eye stuff,so I got myself a couple of tubes of time delay eye. Don't know if is any good? But it worked out quite cheap. I am now going to plugh through the LE and not buy anything else until it's gone! I am afraid to say that I have had to throw things away before now because they have 'gone off' before I have used them, but now I put a date on things with perm pen when I buy them,so I can always use the oldest stuff first. I added up the value of the stash of toiletries I have, and going by their full value price I could have taken my children away for a very nice weekend,so I am a bit annoyed with myself. I don'y know how you are all doing this challenge, but I have decided that every time I get something out of my stash I will put it's value in a savings pot. Is that what you all do? Makes sense to me,anyway.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

Hi suzie and spiggle:hello: welcome to the thread and good luck . Suzie, personally i put £2 in the pot for each and every item i finish, wether it be a sample, freebie , tester, sachet etc, but different people put in different amounts and some (like tara) put in money when they ressit buying something they would normally grab with both hand. So its up to you really, but all spending must be confessed and is punishable by lines:D:D lol.
Finished an FCUK polished body butter, wiba, no i have a few already in the stash and although i do really like it, i am going off the matching body spray(bit too spicy at the end of spary iykwim) and i like to layer my fragrances when possible.
Going into the city for a facial at Elemis tomorrow, cannot wait, my mum went the other day (i bought them on bogof and gave her one for her birthday) and was so impressed with them, especially the special massage chair??
Will report back tomorrow.
Nab
xxYou laugh because I'm different......I laugh cause I just farted!

OK, so tried to post last night but I think it died a death...
...have come to the end of a tube of Neutrogena Nourishing Foot Cream. I bought it by mistake instead of the intensive foot repair stuff. WIBA? Yes! It is very good, and that high glycerine content is great for sorting out dry heels. I would still prefer the other stuff, though, as I am on my feet all day and that was even better, but this is still very good stuff. :T
I'm sure I came to the end of something else, but I can't quite remember what. I hate it when that happens! Please call me 'Pickle'
No More Buying Books: ???

Succumbed to the evil Body Shop again
I bought the Love etc perfume (half price) with free body butter, coconut perfume oil and mini coconut gift set to layer the fragrance. Also bought an 'into glamour' impuls body spray as I love the smell (it was £1 in the co-op). Am very sorry
On the plus side I have used up an anna sui perfume (ok), fcuk body spray (ick) and a whitening mouthwash (not sure if it does anything). Will use the last of a packet of simple face wipes in a mo.I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul, I want you to notice when I'm not around0 -
Just finished up the mini Boots Mediterranean Orange, Chamomile and Honey body wash I bought for 20p at the clearance store. it seems to have lasted well so I guess I got my money's worth! WIBA? Yes, although I suspect this is another discontinued thing so I may not have the chance. Smelled nice, lathered well, and felt good in use, not too drying. I have a full size one from the same range to use in due course IIRC. For now though I have put an Avon one to go on to.
Started my Crabtree & Evelyn body scrub tonight - I would heartily recommend it to anyone who really wants to feel a scrub doing its job - it's got quite big grains and feels really effective!

I've just popped on to read but there seems to be a gazillion posts since I was here last
it's massivley late and I'm totally shattered, the school hols seemed to have dragged away all my spare time to nosey on the net
I've managed to use up a deoderant woohoo :T but I've got a spare so I still haven't bought anything. I am going to buy some bits in the 4 for £3 Asda offer though... 2 mouth washes and 2 bubble bath's because I've almost run out of both and while I'm saving money theres no harm in buying a spare
I saw a link for an epilator in another thread last week and thought I'd treat myself with money I got for the mobile I sold on ebay... I was too late and now it's not even anywere to be found on the boots website. I'm too scared to go in store for it because I'll spend too much money
I hope everyone's having a lovely weekend and I'm going to have a read through the thread properly tomorrow when I get some time. Off to bed nowEven if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0 -
katieclampet wrote: »Hi all, wow, what a lot to catch upon. I still haven't bought anything (except deodrant which I had ran out of) since I began the challenge, so I am very pleased with myself.:)
I have used loads of half empty bottles of shampoo, conditioner, spray in conditioner, leave in conditioner, hand cream, moisturiser, 2 x bottles of perfume, body lotion, and body butter.
I hate body lotion, I find it thin & watery, it wont rub in properly, and I have very dry skin so it's crap anyway!!
I will NEVER EVER buy it again!! A couple of times I bought gift packs of perfume with body lotion as part of a set, thinking it was good value. NOT when I've got loads of the flaming stuff, and I hate it. I have given dd some, but she's not keen.
Wow katie, the original thread starter and you are really setting a good example!!! I am very impressed.
I have finally copped on that I hate body lotion too, as does Bronnie (and possibly others), we should be grateful that this thread has given us such an amazing epiphany!!! :rotfl: Really though, it has been an eye opener for me to discover and take note of what really works and doesn't. This will save me a fortune in future as I will not buy stuff that doesn't suit me, leaving me more money to buy the things that I truly love.
p.s. all those products used up, you must be in the bathroom permanently!! :rotfl:I added up the value of the stash of toiletries I have, and going by their full value price I could have taken my children away for a very nice weekend,so I am a bit annoyed with myself. The value of my stash could probably get me to Australia!!!:rotfl:
Welcome to you (and also to Spiggle). I haven't listed/photographed my stash, bit daunted at the thought really! Just do what's right for you.
I transfer money online from my current a/c to one of my savings a/cs for every time I use something up (the value of the item) or every time I seriously resist a toiletry purchase (i.e. have my debit card in my sweaty palm ready to buy and then say no). You can see by my sig how that's been going! Every time I give in and buy something, I transfer it back from savings to current a/c to 'pay' for the product(s), this is deterring me from spending as I like to see the total going up, not down! I have fallen off the wagon a few times but nowhere near as much as I would have before the challenge.

You can run it whichever way you like, really. Some of us have realised that the reason we've got stashes is that we've simply not been using the stuff for various reasons - mainly the thing I think that has stood out is the number of people almost feeling as though they can't use the stuff because then it would be gone - silly and illogical, but there you have it!
This is so true and we have talked about it many times!! I've been guilty of this with my nicer stuff - I bought a lot of it pre-MSE when I thought nothing of spending £20 on a face cream and had never heard of glitches! Then I hardly used them because they were so nice and I knew I wouldn't be able to justify the cost of replacing them! Daft really! I'm lucky nothing expensive has gone off, that would be such a waste.
Now I'm pampering myself every day and feeling fab! When it's gone, it's gone, but at least I've had the benefit of it - and with all the glitches, loopholes and cashback (plus the financial benefit of not wasting my money on products that aren't that good), I'm sure I will be able to afford them one way or another in the future! In the meantime, I am shopping from my stash.

Can I ask what 'glitches' are, please? I must admit I don't really buy anything in Boots generally and I never buy anything in body shop anymore as it seems soooo expensive (it opened when I was just starting my nurse training and seemed so cheap back then and such a treat-they would fill a little pot for you as a sample to take away,so you never ended up with anything you didn't like.) My place of purchase,as I said tends to be Liz Earles website and QVC (although I won't be buying from either for quite some time, looking at my stash!) and feelunique.com (duty free).I bought a 400ml decleor system corps body moisturiser from feelunique.com a couple of weeks ago, along with a 400ml 3 in 1 lancome cleanser as they were both on offer and they also sent me a voucher. I am still finishing off a 200ml system corps so I won't be needing any body mosituriser for quite some time! My oldest boy bought me some clarins eau dynamisante shower gel for Christmas (I hadn't got the heart to tell him I hadn't even opened the one from the previous Christmas yet!) so my mission is to finish the first one over the next 5 weeks or so (it lasts me ages though as you need so little so it may take longer than that.) I have 9 l'occitane soaps to use up from last year and one and half 400ml l'occitane milk shea shower stuff-I had no idea I had so much stuff. I had even made up teachers presents with l'occitane stuff from my stash at Christmas, otherwise I would have even more (rolls eyes!) Does anyone else also have a bit of a thing about yankee candles like me? I have so many I hang onto as I love the smell and worry I can't replace them if I use them-so ridiculous as I am sure the smell will go eventually if I don't use them! I currently have 6 small jars, 22 tarts and 19 scented tea lights. Sigh. Such a waste of money, even though I never pay full price. I am glad I happened on this thread!Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0
