  • you need a inverter with multiple asymetrical string MPPT Trackers
basically two inverters in the same box
you can coonect odd or even number of modules to get desired output
start small say 9 pv modules and extend to 20 - 30 - 40 as funds allow
1kw can be extended to well over 4kwp easily
    without changing inverter or switchgear
buy adding extra modules & roof supports

google PVI-3.0-OUTD and you will find me

    Two somewhat devious questions:

How much of your existing system would you need to remove and get a 'new' system fitted by an accredited installer that qualified for FITs?

If someone had, say, a 1kW system installed by an accredited installer, and at a latter date DIY fitted some extra panels(especially if you had some lying in the garage!!) presumably the output of these would attract FITs????
  • i have no connection at all with MCS at all
you have accused me of this before
this is the UK approval of solar and all renewable energy products
with mcs certification - you basically can,t
use - fit - install - sell or get any tarriffs if not mcs certified

i supply pv wholesale and supply mcs certified pv products

if you had bothered to look at
    www.microgenerationcertification.org
you will see this information was given without any bias
you will see only approved products & installers are listed
    not me

if you want any information about me see
    www.scottnangle.co.uk
you are always complaining pv is expensive
but you are speaking to the wrong people

    Where from?

They have to be installed by an accredited installer and the going rate is around £5.5k to £6.5k per kW. So your 7kW will cost between £35,000 and £45,000.

In any case you only get the high rate of FIT for < 4kWp.

£8-12k will get you a whole church roof full of solar panels
    40 x 185wp about 7kwp or 52 metres square metres for under £12k
    mcs certified pv panels
for grants and fit feed in tarrifs
    just shop around
and will offer payback of about 8years or less

    Daytona
Please can you back up this statement as my experience suggests it is misleading nonsense. Firms i have approached as MCS installers will fit only a very modest system ( up to 2kWp) for £12k.

    Not quietly!

It was never the intent to have both FITs and the £2,500 grant. The grants stopped in April 2010 when FITs started.

However there was grant money left in the kitty when the proposed FITs were announced last July and there was a 'honeymoon period' where grants were still given from the kitty for systems that would benefit from FITs in April.

"The grants stopped in April 2010 when FITs started".

I had been watching this very closely.....and there was no mention of it...it was very quietly withdrawn....by the way it is not april 2010 yet......the grant was the same for installing any renewable technology..... just like GSHP, ASHP, Solar Thermal, wind turbines etc... the FITs which don't start till April is for generating clean electricity into the national grid. The RHI may well be payed from April 2011 but you can still get a grant for these.

is there a minimum size to qualify for FIT? I can only fit three panels on my roof for a 4.2 SqM surface area. For some reason I thought there was a minimum of 8 SqM, but cant find reference to this. Just had an informal quote of £5.5k to fit them.
