Im literally trying anything I can think of now crystal

But yep, after every 'attempt' we need to know if we're getting anywhere

Question ~ when you boot does the SOUND of windows come up? (the little jingle before the desktop pops up)

***EDIT*** Switch on all those that you disabled before

was it after you did the update for Internet Explorer 8 that you had this problem?

Do you have the Windows xp disc that came with your computer?

sorry for delay doing school run, right i did what we said and repaired errors and tried again and guess what.....no it still black.so i rebooted by pressing f8 and instead of clicking on safe mode with network i tried the option where it says (your last working settings) and it loaded up ok but was very very slow so i am now back in safe mode.

maybe give you new idea i dont know.

So when you restart your computer it boots up to your windows desktop okay?

Is the boot up still slow or is it when you open and use IE8 that it slows down.

If you reload the graphics driver it might be ok when you use those settings

A suggestion: try using firefox (it's a browser like Internet Exploder)
    http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/

or Chrome (not a fan personally)
    http://www.google.com/chrome

    or Opera
    http://www.opera.com/

Try one of the above and see if internet use is any quicker? This will help rule in/out your IE update?
