Ours needed doing at either 7 years or 70000 miles. We had it done bang on schedule but know that we will not have the car when it needs doing again. It is also an issue with our type of car and is an added selling point. People are putting it in the title when listing them an ebay. Plus if it does fail whats the cost of a new engine? Must be at least 1k i would think.

Are you at the stage when it is recommended by your vehicle manufacturer?

    Off to work now

mummyofonechild, Well done with all your efforts , sorry to hear your car needed attention and has set you back when you are so very close to the end. I will be following your thread with great interest because I am not far behind you and we hope to be finished by march 12 (10 months times) but you can never tell , only yesturday
( friday 13th ) my husband has torn the muscle in his leg and is now off work for a while :(, but we will get there.

    Thanks Mirry

Please don't feel too sorry for us. I paid for it on my 0% credit card which doesn't run out till May 2012 :D

I can't believe how low our payments should be. I have 1K in emergency saving plus our everyday account.

DD has £800 in her savings account. I would not entertain touching that so It looks like Sept it is.

I hope your husband feels better soon (and at least is paid when he is off sick unlike me )

I dont think he is going to be paid whilst off sick so will only
get stat sick pay. :(. sorry to hear your are off sick too.

we have some savings which I may be tempted to use near the end to speed things up :D. I worry about the unexpected too much with the health problems. I pass out alot , which makes working a challange , I only work 1.5 hours a day :o.

I am not off sick now but was off for 6 weeks at Christmas and my employer does not pay sick pay either. Just ssp. Hopefully hubby will be feeling better soon. If I had not been ill then we would probably be mortgage free already.

    Evening all,

I have just returned home from work. OH is cooking tea (spaghetti Bolognaise)
I have been mulling over the idea of paying our rainy day £1K off of the mortgage. I will still have £600 in my virtual sealed pot and a virtually unused Barlcaycard with a 5K limit on it 0% free till next May for emergencies. Our current account also has a balance of 1K on it but varies up and down depending on the time on the month.

If i still feel the same in the morning then I will go ahead and do it. I will pay the money back as soon as we are mortgage free.

Well what do you think of my idea?

Dunno? How likely are you going to need time off again with your back? You said you don't get more than SSP didn't you? I'd be cautious i think, as it will take you a while to save it again.
