My quest to be mortgage free by the end of 2012

I think I will still not like spending money and will still looks for bargains. I will also save for pension as I dont have one but will also prob have hols and cars without feeling guilty at last!
A friend of mine asked why am I doing it as it will only go to my children in the end anyway, its money in bricks and mortar, so why not live now and not OP. I could die next week and all the hard work would be for nothing. When I am older the money still wont be mine unless I sell the house. I can see their point to a degree but I state all the thousands of pounds I am saving by OPing and have sense of pride in doing it and owning the house fully in a few years time. But I do see what they are getting at and sometimes I doubt what I am doing is the right thing.MPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987

Oops, i think i missed out an it or a comma or something. Of course Radish is not evil.
I think we all get doubts at times as to whether we are doing the right thing, but keep the faith. We will appreciate it in our dotage. I'd rather be doing this than have yet more clothes to wash and iron, and more belongings that need to go to ebay or the charity shop.0 -

If you are washing the clothes before you sell them on ebay then I think you are not in the wrong :rotfl:
My main reason for OP's is purely down to not wanting to pay the bank anymore interest then I have to, everyone at work thinks I'm "weird" for doing itMortgage Aug 12 £165K, Aug 19 £0

Unfortunately not for ebay, just our normal family washing. DD has just come back from swimming and has passed her Bronze stages 1,2 and 3 Rookie Life saving. She also passed her amateur radio foundation licence yesterday. Not bad for an 11 year old.Mortgage Free as of 31/5/11 :j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -
well done to DD
I OP to save on interest mostly but also to have the satisfaction of not having that huge bill going out every month a bit earlier than it should be.MPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987

Thank You,
We are proud of her too. Makes a change from moaning at her all the time
I am overpaying so that if i was ever made redundant again, I would have the security of owning my own home, then comes the saving of £1000's in interest payments
Have a good week
