My quest to be mortgage free by the end of 2012

  • Afternoon everyone.

I hope you are all enjoying the weekend even though the weather is not so nice as in previous days.

I think I must be really sad because I can't wait until the 28th of this month when our next mortgage payment goes out so I can change my signature so that the mortgage balance goes down.

I am trying to be as economical as possible without doing without completely. I did very briefly consider buying a new car but that would put our MF plans completely out of the window. As we are so close to the end It would be such a shame not to get to the end of the challenge.

So its mortgage free first, then save up for a replacement car. Our current one is only 04 reg so will be fine for a couple of years I think.

    Have a lovely day

I feel like i'm wishing my life away as well, but we'll have a much better quality of life once the mortgage has gone :D

Indeed we will. My sensible head says we are so near to the end it would be such a shame not to use the money saved up on the mortgage as intended.

Good luck on your MF journey :D

Your far more sensible than me, we spent £25k on 2 new cars last year and in hindsite it probably wasn't necessary, my car was 8 years old but had never had anything wrong with it as i'd had it from new and not really done that many miles, hubbys was 6 years old and had a few problems but we'd spent money reparing it before part ex'ing it.

If you pay the extra off the mortgage now your so near to the end once it's paid off it won't take long to save up for a new car :D

I would be so impatient to only have that much left to pay. I think once I get down to about £20k I will be really impatient and will probably sell everything I own out of pure obsession over it lol

My mortgage payment for May has left my account today. I have updated my signature. The balance is approximately £5300. I have £4100 in a savings account ready to go towards the mortgage.

I now only have £1200 left to save :D
