I live in Greater London, and an average tiler charges between £30-£38 a sqm, that includes him suppling the materials, and you of course pays for the tiles.
admittidly some will charge more even if its a small job,it sound daft I know, but they need to cover a full days money, even if the job takes them half a day.
  • Im a tiler and I charge a flat rate of £25 sqm for fitting. that includes adhesive and grout. The best thing for you to do is get a tiler to come round and measure up. Tell him you want to get your own tiles and he will give you the measurements required. After he has gone just double check his measurements. Add 10% on top to allow for cuts and waste.

Take these measurements round a few tile shops and ask them if they can recomend a tiler. Most work on a referal scheme. Ask these tilers to give you a quote but also ask them if they can get a discount at that tile shop. The shop that I get referals from allow me to give a maximum of 25% discount on tiles. I tend to give 15% and that then makes me 10% commision on the final sale. Also it means that i dont have to lay any money out for the tiles.

I agree with ragjoy, It can be frustrating when people expect it to cost nothing if its a little job, but everyone has there own pricing.

Most tile shops can recomend tilers for little jobs. My old man used to be a tiler but now his knees are shot so he only does it on the side and will not charge a daily rate. If the company refers someone you should be safe as no company will refer someone who has been reported for doing a bad job.

Also a note to people who do there own tiling. unscrew the face plates on plug sockets and tile just underneath the edge of them, not around them!!!!

Where are you based dry? You're very cheap and I'd have plenty of work for you at the rate you're quoting.

I agree, and I bet you get regular work cause you charge a reasonable price, it doesnt matter what trade your in, if you charge too much you can price yourself out of a job.
I work in the trade as a female decorator, and I love the job,and I would rather charge a bit less and do a job that I love, than be stuck at home, obviously if I dont want the job, or there is something about the person I cant take to, I then will up my price.:o
  • lol, I know that feeling. Doesnt always work though does it.
I once went to quote on a job and ive never seen walls and floor that were so bad. I had a big job booked in for the end of the week and physically didnt have time to do all the work required. I went in with a price that was twice as high as I would normally charge but the guy accepted it.
Worked out ok though, the extra I had quoted allowed me to get a builder in to fix the walls and floor and then get the job done in time.

Ok, London and home county prices are somewhat different.

I am looking for an estimate for about 25m2 of limestone wall tiling to be done in central Scotland. Tiles will probably be 20x30 cm and there are two small recesses (20x20x30cm) to be included. Can anyone give me an idea how much that would cost me (either supply and fit or just fitting) as I'm trying to work out if I can fit it into my budget.
  • I just had 7sq m of tiles done in my shower cubicle, I supplied tiles, adhesive & grout but had forgotton the spacers & the grout wasn't enough so he brought his own - charged me £120 for the 6 hours it took - excellent, professional job.

I'm fair at DIY but a few rows of tiles behind a sink is a bit different to a water-tight shower cubicle & I know my limitations - false economy to bodge it myself then have to pay out more for somebody to re do it - I can save money elsewhere on jobs I haven't got to get somenbody in

ALWAYS, ALWAYS use word of mouth, there's too many in cowboy land!!
