Well I am doing pretty well at buying enough that we don't need to go for 'top-up' shops but my cupboards/fridge/freezer are scarily bare. At least I am using up all larder stuff that's been hanging around, plus some scary looking veg.

Here's a challenge - does anyone know any good recipes for milk chocolate? I get as much as I want from work but neary all recipes are for dark chocolate or cocoa powder. It seems a shame not to take advantage of being given decent milk chocolate for free:D

Just had a look in the fridge and DH has brought this home. Its called better by far if its the same one and it was 50p

That's the one! If I had room in the freezer would have bought more :o

I bought 3 packs of meat for £10 offer in Mr M at the weekend....bit doubtful if it is good value but wanted chicken breasts and lamb anyway so added beef.

Out of those I got 4 portions of chicken curry, 3 portions of beef in red wine and 2 of Irish-ish stew so not bad for a tenner with some veggies etc added. Some eaten and rest.....yes...in the freezer (Note to self - don't buy any more meat to batch cook for at least 2 weeks :D)

Also trying not to bake until all the biscuits and cakes in the house used up.........
  • Hi all,

I've been lurking to see how everyone has got on. For those not aware i'm not doing a GC but a very painful withdrawal from a financially crippling shopping addiction.
Well i'm proud to report that I have barely been shopping this month - I've been to tesco's once and spent £28 and the rest has been from the storecupboard. I think it was mid Jan it all kicked off so three weeks cold turkey and suddenly I am getting a SMUG satisfaction not spending money.
I am having lots of NSD's and NCD's too (no car days!)

I am also pleased to report we are NOT in our OD yet - I know it's early days but I am soooo pleased:D

Thankyou all and THANKYOU MRSMCAWBER for the fabulous soft flour tortilla recipe in the cookery collection. I won't buy them again!:j

    Hi all

Should be a low cost week as DH is away for 3 nights so me and the children will be eating simply. Tonight we had beans on toast with cheese and an egg on top, tomorrow is leftover spaghetti bol and wednesday will probably be a gnochi recipe I found in a magazine. (I'll post it on here if it works!).

It's FREEZING here but no snow.... got my thermals ready for tomorrow as I'm walking on Dartmoor!

  • Some tempting offers in A$da so have spent another £17.69. Best buy was 15 free range eggs for £2 - bargin!
    ......
  • I went to Tesco the other night (Friday)while my dd went to dance class. Luckily I ran out of time or I would have spent more! Im tempted to return there tomorrow though to have a more leisurely look around as I cant go wed thur fri or sat as Im working and Im going away on Sunday. As Im leaving 3 at home, Hubby, DS and eldest DD I think I will really stock up and leave a menu plan in the hope that DD will enforce it(she is 24).
So next week I doubt any money will be spent at home on groceries.
I got a lot of whoopsies like a pack of 6 bread rolls for 6p and a pack of 12 richmond sausages for 29p among others. I also went to Co-op and bought some more bits including lager and wine(£9 on those). Im including those in my budget and Im doing ok-sort of near the limit. Ive worked it out that I have £17.85 per day for Feb which means Ive presently got about £25 spare. If I shop tomorrow I shouldnt spend more than approx £43 to keep within budget-thats working things out on a daily basis. I find that taking my monthly budget and working out a daily spend helps to keep me on track. I bought 3 kg or red potatoes(whoopsied at 60p) which will help out next week so Im going to plan a lot of meals using those. Ive made some veggy bolognese tonight which will improve in flavour overnight for tomorrow. It may of course get served with baked potatoes!
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults
