February 2010 Grocery Challenge

  • hi,

can I join please? This is my first grocery challenge, although i have been following the January thread :)

Can you put me down for £280 for Feb please. This is for me, DH, two boys (3) & (nearly 5) and two cats! the budget will cover all food (except DH lunches), drink, toiletries and cleaning products.

I will be having a go at meal planning later, will probably do weekly to start until i get into it and more organised. :j

My big down fall will be my "popping into the shops" after dropping my son at school. The school is two minutes from our new and shiny MR S - which i find myself in everyday. This really needs to stop!

    So wish me luck!

I used to 'nip to the shops' after dropping my GDs at school - and even after picking them up - despite the fact the shops are the other side of school to home !!!

Finally twigged the easiest solution was to leave my purse at home when I went out on school runs - unless I actually needed to go to the shops for something like milk, bread or veg.

Hi there, I'm going to budget £175 for February please. Thats for 2 adults.

I've spent £64.19 on a T's delivery yesterday as i am stuck at home with a icky, horrid cold :( I had about £10 worth of multisaves and a £10 off code so that helped to stock up on toliteries, tea, coffee, cleaning stuff, vitamins, tissues etc. Am hoping to be fit enough to get to M&S for my meat at the weekend and then i will be well stocked for the month and will only have to do tiny wee top up shops :D

Good luck everyone and thank-you to all those who take the time to organise this thread. Also thanks to those who post, reading your posts is what keeps me motivated :T

    Morning all
A nice new shiney thread :D

Well this is my 1st month back in the swing of things for quite a while -luckily hubby was brilliant with shopping and spending as little as possible whilst I was out of action :T
Anyway -as I had quite a bit left over from last years annual budget -I spent some of it on stuff in the UK when we were back home over xmas - coffee, bread flour, cheese etc oh and some meat for the freezer-so that will save us a fortune ;). So I have reduced our budget for this year...so have set us a €1200 for the year...lets see how I get on with that :p

Our month started on the 25th and yesterday was our first spend -on:-
    1. 2 bags pasta
    2. bag coconut
    3. 2 fresh yeast
    4. 4lt fresh milk
    5. pack ready rolled puff pastry
    6. onions
    7. 2 romain lettuce
    8. broccoli
    9. cucumber
    10. mozzarella
    11. 3 red peppers
    12. 2kg carrots
    13. tomatoes
    14. 12x1.5lt fizzy water
for a total of €13.73 -and I will get €3 back on the bottles next time ;)
Hubby has requested home made pizza tonight -so I have a batch of baguette dough proving -it makes 4x12" bases so 2 can go in the freezer (if I can find space )-if not I will make it into some cobs for the weekend..

I have found that it is much cheaper to get hubby to stop off and pick up the odd items when we need them, he has to pass the supermarket on his way home so its quicker for him too -and he only buys exactly what I ask for :T. He just picks me up now when I want quite a few bits -

right -thats more than enough waffle for now:o-hope everyone has a good month ;)

Hi Mrs M - welcome back and thanks to all who work so hard to maintain the thread!

Just back from Asda where I went a bit over what I intended to spend ( whats new?) but they seemed to have loads of good offers on the things I like! As its the first Feb shop, it'll balance out over the month ( hope)!
Have a great weekend everyone x

Welcome to the newbies joining us, if you have any questions please ask, there's always someone around to help.

I did a quick tot up last week and I've already spent about a third of my annual budget  but I'm really well stocked up so hoping it will even out by end of the year!

Good luck with the challenge everyone hippie-2.gif

yes, this is what i need to do :)

I have justified my frequent visits in the past because i don't drive, and there is only so much shopping you can get home on a pushchair :rotfl:. However, i think i need to get organised and do a monthly meal plan so that i can then do an online shop for the month. We used to do a weekly shop, DH would take me and the boys but this was not fun and i spent far too much. (Feb, being the shortest month should be a good month to start on)

For bread, milk, fruit and veg etc, i think a small weekly cash allowance to myself rather than taking the debit card would stop me buying on impulse.

I recently discovered our local market (lived here 9 years and never been till last week) there is an good sized fruit and veg stall there. one visit a week would be plenty.

So, my new plan of action today is to do a four week meal plan (as this is my first go, it may be abit repetative, but at least i will be on the right track:))

will let you know how i get on. :)
