Bedroom door stuck...........any ideas?

Hi Guys

Really need some help. One of my bedroom door is stuck, and I mean stuck!!! You can push it at the top and it will move, likewise the same can be done at the bottom so I am thinking its something to do with the handle.

I have taken the handle off........all this did was leave me with a wee silver pole thing (would it maybe be what connects the handle on the outside and inside?) but the door still wont open :(:(:(

Has anyone any suggestions how I can get it open? Have tried running at it..........yip rugby tackle style!! All I managed with this one was a sore head :o

Oh not sure if this will make a difference but they are handles, not wee knob things.

As you can probably tell from my post Im not really all that hot with the whole DIY thing so any suggstions would be great

Have you tried sliding a screwdriver down the side of the door ( where the metal plate bit is ) and try to push the metal sticky out bit back into the door manualy ( too technical ?:rotfl:)

If it moves at the top and bottom it must be something around the lock.
Just a thought but maybe when whoever fitted the door lock cut 'wee silver pole thing' short, so when you turn the handle its not turning the pole,
Have you got a pair of pliers, or a tiny spanner, something to help you turn the pole.
If you can turn it the lock should open.
    Try that and come back.

Your latch (the bit that the handle attaches too) is broken. if you can get something thin down the side of the door you may be able to work it back in, then get it replaced.
  • do you have any tools? water pump pliers or maybe a set of spanners?
try turning the spindle ("wee silver pole thing") with one of those or something else you can get a good grip on it with.
does this turn? easily? too easily? doesn't turn? doesn't move at all?

Ok this is going to sound completely dim and Im nottrying to be funny but are plyers the ones that look a bit like scissors except they arent sharp?

Ok Im back and its not good :(

The wee silver pole thing doesnt turn at all! Im thinking thats not right!!

I cant slide something down the side bit of the door cause whoever fitted it has put this frame thing (like made of wood) round it so when you look at it the door kinda fits into it. Does that make sense?
