  • The magistrates aren't stupid. Hopefully it WILL go to court, and both the police and public prosecutor will end up with egg on their faces.

What I don't get is that all these stupid fines are happening when people with one arm are allowed to drive, ....If they can drive with one hand why can't Joe Bloggs do it for a few seconds? Also a driver is allowed to open/close a window, turn on radio etc (at least we always have been able to do these things)

what i can't beleive is all the problems we have in society today that could be doing with some police and court room attention the officer thought this was worth wasting police and court time on.

It gets better, they have cameras to catch you eating at the wheel now. The upgraded speed camera vans can take a picture of any offence as they are manually operated. It was developed to catch mobile phone users but can also be used for eating, drinking, maybe even smoking. The picture is then digitally transmitted to the ticket office where a copper at a desk gets to decide what offence the camera operator actually photographed.

Reminds me of that poem, the one that starts "First they came for the Jews"

I would have noted his registration number and lodged a formal compaint with his superiors - this is just totally unacceptable.

    Quite.

The motorist is an easy target though, and Fixed Penalty Notices are a nice money earner for the forces budget.

I frequently notice officers committing equally petty offences, water bottle in hand whilst steering with the other etc.. its double standards, nothing new there. Next time I see it I will take a picture and make a police complaint. More people should do. Grumbling wont stop this happening.
Yep, I was in a Blackpool a couple of years back, very busy on the seafront with traffic and people crossing and saw a female PC driving a panda eating an oversized sub sandwich
