  • Shell - The pictures look great! I love the present bales, they look really effective. The reindeer food and items on that picture look great too - how are you planning to sell your items?

Thanks for your help on the scheduled listing for EBay - it came up no problem on my new account, just not on my old one. Will try turbo lister in the future (just downloaded it). Delighted as did a HTML page (the one detailed in FAQ's on Ebay thread)`and that allowed me to upload big pictures in the item description bit, so buyers get a clear view of what they are getting. Am a bit of a techno phobe so was made up when it worked lol!!

Not put the clothes bundles for postage abroad due to the fact it is heavy (40 odd items) & postal tracking is kind of useless out of the UK. How have others posted / tracked heavy items abroad? Any tips?
  • Think half the problem with feeling nervous for interviews is the fear of the unknown....i.e. not really knowing what they want or what they will ask...so do some preparation in advance think of answers for all the obvious questions, like why do you want this job what do you think you can bring to it, what are your strengths, what are your weakensses (make the weaknesses positives in disguise i.e. say something like....I tend to check things too much i.e. I am a perfectionist, make sure you know exactly where you are going beforehand and who you need to ask for, do a trail journey a few days before so no rushing on the day, wear something you feel comfortable in smart but not over the top prob best for most jobs and remember, often some of those on the panel are nervous about interviewing you, and at end of day they want to hire someone and want you to do your best so should be encouraging...is only the odd time you will get a real ogre on the panel and maybe for tougher jobs where questions will be alot more taxing....make sure you keep eye contact most of the time, be natural, friendly and you should come across well. I have struggled with some interviews but usually do really well in them....thou has taken me years to realise that they are not out to trick you or catch you out....in one of my early jobs a fellow colleague stole money from the business so we were all subject to length interviews some with head office managers and police....that set me up for thinking that interviews were scary and designed to catch you out, but they are not! Interviews for jobs are all about hiring the right person and no reason why you are not that person!
  • I have got 2 leather coats from Ecquador and a few leather handbags to sell that my auntie gave me, most are black and I know black doesn't photograph well on ebay...does anyone thing Id be better to put the coats at least in local paper? Also what about a dinner service...should I sell it separate piece by piece or altogether....its quite an expensive set...nice china. Good that my auntie wants me to sell stuff for her but feel a certain pressure to get best price that wouldn't be so bad if was my own stuff.....shes saying get whatever you cna but wont be good if get £1 for a real leather hardly worn jacket!

Morning all. Have been browsing for a bit and still here in my dressing gown with a well-fed cat rumbling away beside me.

Today's jobs are to take some pics of some of the recycled CD jewellery I made yesterday (and a few of the earlier bits too) and to get them sized and cropped ready for Misi or Folksy. Also to have a look at Misi and see how I go about having a shop on there too. And to do a blog entry with some of this new stuff on it. That should keep me busy.

I'm also getting DH to get me assorted canvases/box frames when he goes to town. I did 2 scrapbook albums for someone at his work, which were much admired, but I'd have to charge a fortune for to do them commercially (the person I did them for had done us a life-changing type favour!). I also did a canvas of DD which he put in his office and was also admired, so I thought if I did a new sample he could casually mention to anyone who admired it that I'd do one for them at a price LOL. Then I'll also do samples to have on display when I do my jewellery stall at the local school. I have an absolute mountain of cardstock and scrapbook paper so I'd like to use some of it up and if I can make money from it, so much the better. I think individual ones would work way better than albums - quicker for me and more affordable for the purchaser. Might have a play with one of those later too, if I get the time.

munchki, I will be here on and off all day if you need any help of any sort.

Anyone else who needs help/opinions/kick up the rear today, just shout.

ok this is bad, I still have not got anywhere! Am I perhaps trying to hard? So much rejection as of late, suppose it does take a bit of a swipe at your self confidence sometimes.

Ok off to pick the job spec apart again and break it down that way and will write accordingly....after ummmmm I make some coffee.

Thanks for the support everyone. x

Re interviews - also remember that sometimes when you think they have gone badly they actually haven't. (Remember coming out of exams convinced you've failed and when you get the results you've done OK?)

I well remember one interview for a national institution. At the time I was working for nowt in a recording studio and a radio station to get experience (one of my many and varied jobs LOL) and I was interviewed for an engineering role in national/local radio. It was a panel interview and I'd already seen one of the girls ahead of me come out in tears, so I knew it wasn't going to be a picnic.

Anyway, towards the end, one bloke on the panel (big time suit) was pushing and pushing. He was asking me about the mixing desk I used and I was describing the layout of it when he went "the pad wouldn't be there". Now by this stage I am so hacked off they can stuff their job, so I just looked at him square in the eye and said "It's my mixing desk, and the pad is there." Left convinced they'd not want me in a month of Sundays! They actually offered me the job, but I turned it down as it wasn't where/what I was after and haven't regretted it, but just shows if you stand your ground sometimes it's what they are looking for.

Thankyou:o I sold the snowman soup and reindeer food at craft fairs and on ebay at xmas. I also sold to friends and neighbours. the nappy cakes I have only ever really done for friends but after a random phonecall last week have decided to give it a go. Ebay seems saturated so may just settle with the local market, offices etc. I will work to budget so let people decide what they would like to pay. As for all the other items I have a website, but have lost heart in it and due to name issues I have put it on the back burner so to speak. Currently looking for name inspiration! lol

Any tips? In your listing state that you will only send international signed for and if they would like to bid to contact you first for a postal quote as it will be quite expensive. Apperenntly alot of clothes like next etc are well sought after in the foreign market and people are happy to pay high postage to get the items. Could be worth your while. There are also quite a few courier services that ship abroad so may be worth taking a look for quotes parcel2go.com is one I am aware of x

Crafty Toots, JoeyGrey Thankyou for the comments guys :o xx

Munchki - all I can suggest is just start. don't worry about finishing just sit down maybe with a timer. choose something, anything to write about and just do it for 15 mins. Choose something to do as a reward after 15 mins. enjoy that then set the timer again and do another 15 mins. If you are really into it at the end of 15 mins then carry on a bit longer but make sure to stop for your reward as soon as you feel blocked or tired - but not before 15 mins.
Don't worry about where to start - if there is one bit you feel like writing but you don't know where it fits just write it.
Don't worry about finishing - just keep starting.

How old is the dinner service? Is it "antique" enough to get a local auction house or antique dealer to take a look at it? Not many people want china dinner services these days, so these might be your best bet. And at an auction you can put a reserve on, so you would only sell it at a level that your auntie would be happy with.

See, this is why commitments list doesn't work for me.... DD has come downstairs and asked if I'll show her how to make the CD necklaces so she can make some for her friends. So that's the next couple of hours gone!
