It's not finished :rotfl:
I actually need to buy some varnish, which means dragging all three kids out and trying to be quiet enough not to wake OH up...
I've actually been looking at all these well-worn shoes on Ebay and debating whether to do it myself :rotfl:was eying up the shoes in the charity shop yesterday but they all looked too clean!
we could see a work in progress pic......would varnish make much difference to a pic?????
As far as the shoes are concerned I think I need to jump in with both feet (excuse the puns) or it won't be worth it....but when you have a 4 and 3 year old running around it just feels wrong lol!
Hope the kiddies are better today.
Everyone - sorry for the last message - didn't realise it was so long...I really can waffle, sorry dribble!!Life is a work in progress0 -
HELP!!
Any of you skilled sewing experts got any tips for a complete hopeless case who need to hem some school trousers......have used the iron on stuff but still keep coming down so really want to do it properly...I have the needle and thread just no idea of how to start/do it without it looking a mess....how do I stop the stitch showing on the outside??????
(This does have a money saving link because at the moment I want to throw them away and go and buy new ones, which I can't afford and iwll hae to come out of my (small) profit......so there is a weak link to the thread!!)Life is a work in progress0 -

nixinixi, I officially love you more than my OH. That is fantastic thanks so much.:j I always have good ideas for events but, I always get stuck on the marketing side. I tried running some events a year back and although I got great media coverage - heck I even made Time Out recommended event of the week and bbc website. But the I numbers I needed didn't come and I got really down on hosting events. The worst was I teamed up with a quite well known jewellery company and it was one of the worst experiences of my life (no understatement). The so called manager ruined my event and worse still refused to give me the event photos.
I have got my confidence back now - but for a while I just didn't want to try anything else because dealing with the failure and having the OH giving me the I told you so speech and look, I almost lost my nerve to try anything at all!
Thanks so much I am going to print that off and save it! x10K 2010 challenge £3202.59/£10000

So glad it helped - was worried you would just think I was mad lol! :rotfl:
If I can help/provide more random thoughts just shout, though pretty sure I waffled enough for a while!! Turn the last experience into a positive - you now know which bits you wouldn't do again.....which bits worked and which didn't. Try local radio as well for publicity, and if you can think of a strong enough/wacky enough idea you might even be able to local tv coverage......would be too late for that event but could help future events...getting exhibitors and visitors etc! Its just thinking of the idea..... thinking free helicopter ride on the day for one lucky bride....prob. not wacky enough.....what the wackiest way you can get to the ceremony.......... children bombarding me so struggling to think....will try again later!
My boy is nibbly so about to make some flapjacks......if I have the golden syrup that is!!!?Life is a work in progress0 -
Im back, I hate the end of the month! OH needs accounts, VAT returns, wages, and PAYE sorting and it all falls on me to do it for him. But all done now, just got to finish letters protesting to offshore windfarm and marine conservation zone.
Can i ask, is it just me being biased, or do other people think it is wholey unfair to put 250 fishermen out of work because you want to protect a variety of MOSS from being protentially disturbed???
Sooo stressed at the moment! DD has decided to pull half the keys off the keyboard and I can't get them back on, so having to hit it really hard to get them to work!
Right, targets for the month are:
At least 30 Dooyou reviews (although what on I don't know!)
Take the plunge with matched betting (been reading up on it for 2 omnths and not plucked up the courage yet!)
Take advantage of at least £50 worth of Quidco/topcashback freebies
Buy first wholesale lot
Look into costings and viability of opening a toyshop
On that note, what does everyone think of that idea? Everyone keeps saying stick to what you know and all I have done for the last 2 years is kids toys and cleaning and I hate cleaning! So I live in a little town and I have noticed it soI am sure othershave, there is nowhere to buy toys, unless you go to Argos, do you think it is an idea worth looking into?
I have a few other ideas to make money, but wanted something that I can set up that will be sort of a nest egg, if you know what I mean? There are loads of shops sitting empty, so pretty sure I could get a good deal. I know it would be expensive, which is why I have been sitting on the idea, but thinking that I could use my challenge money to start the ball rolling, realistically, probably wouldn't get round to it until next year, but what do you think?
Maybe I am thinking too far ahead, but this challenge has got me thinking about the possibilities in everything, and instead of just moaning about there being no toy shop, I am now thinking about doing something about it!
For the front page: I woud like to use my stash to try reduce debts and take DDs on their first holiday (a last minute one, very MSE!) and buy myself a wardrobe with all these bloody vouchers I am getting for surveys!
Good to see that others are now fine tuning their business ideas! Wish I was so lucky!
With regards to shoes, socks and tights - think of it as free lance text/chat services!
Edit: sorry, didn't realise it was that long! Lack of sleep means I am running a bit hyper at the moment!turn £100 into £10000 in 2010 member #16 £567.68/£10,000 -I'm a wiggly worm, I'm a wiggly worm, how do you do, I love you, I'm wiggly worm!0 -
oh, forgot to say, for those who are considering wholesale, found something by mistake the other day! Looking for Argos catalogue clearance and found argos traders wholesale site!

mummyandpaige - I love the idea of a toy shop but I would be very scared about the overheads etc, also I wouldn't know where to find supplies from...would you be competing with the big boys or trying to find more individual things, or a mix?
I think you need to do some serious research - go and get details/costings of potential outlets, contact suppliers and start to put together a business plan. Also do some market research - ask all the other moms locally that you know. A friend of mine used an online survey thing and posted it to all the moms she knew on Facebook and asked them to pass it to all there contacts etc so she got a wide range of feedback.....will try and find out more about it if you are interested, pretty sure it was free or she wouldn't have done it!!!
Because this would take such a big outlay you really need to properly research it - could you start with an online toy shop and progress..... We had a local sweet shop here, proper old fashioned type, it only opened about 18months ago...it has recently closed because all there custom was online (I thought I spent enough in there to keep them going but obviously not!!!) - the business was more viable using a warehouse rather than a shop.
Just not sure I want to use my ebay account as a 'chat' service lol!! But you are right!Life is a work in progress0 -

The toyshop idea - I would love to open my own shop, looked into it a few years ago but the cost of the rent itself was way too high (thats why there's so many empty shops where I live (down south around 20 miles from london!)) maybe you could do toys and something else as well that is missing from the village (a local village to me has a toy shop/cds dvds etc) or team up with someone else and have 1/2 each ie toys and kids clothes or nursery stuff? Overall I think its a great idea, something to invest your £10k in!Sell £1000 in 2016 - £12.48/£1000
