We're off to the cinema shortly but in the meantime I'm listing more stuff on ebay, everything that ended yesterday sold and everything that is ending today has bids against it so I'm quite excited. I am looking forward to totalling up what I've made in January even though it was helped with my gold sale.

I joined Lovefilm via cashback.co.uk and I didn't realise you had to have 30.00 with them before they give you a payout, wish I'd read the t's & c's and subscribed to a lovefilm trial with quidco. I am wondering if I could set up an account for my parents just to earn the cashback ?

Would it be cheating if I added 40.00 to my total after my switch of supermarkets ? instead of sainsburys I went to morrisons and saved myself 40.00 even though I bought all the usuals. I was really impressed :)

Hope everyone has a profitable day

That's a bummer nixi. I have been thinking about trying to get some work from the general public restoring photos (scanning, fixing, getting a new print). I've done a few for friends and family and people are always impressed.

My Mum informed me there is a geneology centre near by and siad I should get leaflets or a card or something to put in there for all those people with old photos they want restored.

What stopped it being viable for you?

Everyone was always impressed lol, but they don't put a value on it.

I ended up charging £20 (which people thought was extortionate) and then could working 10 hours on a photo... mind you one I did was for an old lady whose husband had recently died and she had a photo of him and another guy from the 2nd World Wr where he was on a big ship....so lots parrelel (sp?) bars/decking in the background...and she wanted the other guy removed. It took ages (I am a perfectionist) and I can say I think I made about £2.00 an hour but her face when she had the new picture of the man she married it was so was worth it! But at that point I realised that either I was to slow or people just didn't place a value on it....because they have no comprehension of how long it can take to do a good job.

Some of the photos I worked on were barely visible in parts and to recreate them was a huge task, unfortunately the majority were like that and not many just discoloured or dusty!

Saying that I did enjoy it, and would do it again if I could charge enough :rotfl:

Do you know yesterday I didn't think I could do anything....today I want to do everything...all thanks to this thread! :j

    Morning all

Hope you all well...I am feeling quite frisky today. Up here in East Yorks, we have a bit of sunshine...whooo hoooo and its bwoody lovely.

    On with the update:

In the last week I have:
*Worked 4 hours o/t at work even though I was on annual leave,
*Won a further £55 on BB and Virgin Bingo,
*Bought and then sold some new Playboy make-up making £68 (I didn't realise the demand for it...sold as well as Clinique:eek:),
*Cleaned the microwave out (it was grotty) I was actually thinking of buying a new one! and now it is sparkly and new,
*I made my birthday cards into pretty birthday gift tags (saved the ones from O/H, mum & son though ),
*Have used up left overs for this weeks dinners including a chicken casserole made with past it veg and rubber chicken, cornish pasties made with the left over casserole and bubble and squeak with fried eggs (that was yum!),
*Sold 8 more items on Ebay - 7 at a profit, 1 at a small loss due to postage charges ,
*Used the library to borrow some great thrifty books including Martin's Money Diet, The Official Guide to Embracing your Inner Cheapskate and Enter the Dragon by Theo Paphitis.
Now I am back at work I can read these books during my break rather than buy mags...and hopefully glean some fabulous ideas.

Well folks I am off to work shortly, just doing Sunday dinner before I go. We are having homemade turkey scallops, with seasoned wedges, petite pois and green beans. I am too busy to do a joint today. :p

    Hope you ladies/gents have a fabulous Sunday. x x

P.S I noticed we had a troll a few pages back...you know that means we have offically "made it"...you're a nobody if you don't have a troll on your thread.:rotfl:

    Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee x x x x x
  • ooh bambywamby I got some clinique face cream for xmas which I've tried before in a bonus and it just didn't like me so I think I shall pop that on ebay, thanks for the added inspiration !!

off to check out the competition (whilst emptying the washing machine and getting ready to go out!)

I've also decided to start meal planning, I've done it before and it saves so much money and avoids waste.

    I love this challenge

Another great week for you bambywamby, you sound very organised. Well done.

I love the title of the book 'The Official Guide to Embracing your Inner Cheapskate', hope it lives up to expectations, let us know.

One of the items on my list is to upgrade my image. I'll need a decent business suit, bag and shoes, for facing clients. I've gone a bit too bohemian, this last year. Off to trawl ebay to see if there is any Armani going cheap lol.
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

Slightly blah post to start the morning but I just thought I should remind anyone who has to complete a PAYE end of year return that EVERYONE now has to do it online. Even employers with less than 50 employee's.

Just so no one gets any nasty fines for filing on paper!!

    HTH

Nikki - Please don't shout at me.... my life has just got away with me.

I am behind on my returns, including this year I owe 3 :eek:AAAARG!

The only good news is in the first 2 I didn't actually do any work (due to babies!) and in this latest one (which I had all intentions of doing until my dad had a stroke and I lost alot of time) I have turned over about £900 so I know I don't owe any tax.

My question is do you know if I can submit the old returns online, or do I have to visit my local tax office to sort it out? It is one of thise jobs that is so far behind that I am now putting it off.....

  • ok - I am here, ready, willing..... any updates on the commitment board?

I cant talk as I have things outstanding, but so far I only have scrooge as having completed their tasks :T

    Anyone need help ?

Amber - I had to vanish last night so I have only just read the bits about suggestions made to you. Have you looked into ebay idea with tarots? Do you have many contacts in Spain with the English? Would they like tarot card readings? Or are you fluent in Spanish? Do the Spanish like that sort of thing? Can you target people considering moving abroad who may feel they need some spiritual guidance? Any local mags you could advertise in, or estate agents - places ex pat wannabes would visit? Any complexes you could 'set up shop' in their foyer once a month ? Could any of us do local advertising for you in the UK - cards in shops or anything like that and increase traffic to your site? I was just thinking if any of us are doing leaflet drops or trawling shops for free advertising space etc, we could also do your business too?
