    Morning all,

Get-rid-of-cold vibes being flung in everyone's direction this morning.

Off for C's check this morning, then I think I'm going to pop into town to run a couple of errands. I've got two cheques to pay in, sun cream to exchange (bought some on BOGOF for C from Boots, got home and realised it said that it mustn't be used on infants less than 18 months old).

I also need to price up helium balloons. I need to order some for C's Christening. I looked online as was going to do them myself but apparently latex ones only last 7 hours unless you buy more expensive stuff to put in them. Foil ones last longer so I'll prob have to get those, even though I wanted latex.

I know you have the fear of them not getting to you, but if you have time to get to hospital then you have time for a MW to get to you ;)
My fave MW lives just down the road from me so if it was her on call duty when I started she could have been with me in minutes :D
The best bit about a HB is that you wouldn't be left alone so non of that alone worrying:T

I too was told not to hang around as Ed's birth could be very short going by Chris taking just short of 7hrs (4hrs 'established labour') due to this I called the hops straight away and told them how quick my 1st labour was, they sent a MW straight away and she stayed with me until he was born.
She said she would normally have left me and told me to try to get sleep but due to previous labour time she stayed.
As it turns out Ed's labour was longer, I had twinges all day, realised I was in labour when I had a show and some contractions and he arrived 6hrs 20min later:)

Yeh, that's true. I know that, assuming the MWs got to me on time, etc, it would be a far better experience for me. I don't feel traumatised by C's birth but knowing what I know now, I don't think I was treated very well in hospital. Also, before I went into the hospital, I was adament that I was coming home the same day unless there was any medical reason for me to stay in. There wasn't so I came home and felt far more relaxed.

I never got to the G&A stage I only ever got to 1cm, Katie wasn't happy right from the get go, you're all going to hate me I've never had a full on contraction!
    I don't hate you.

Thank you for the nice comments about my monster - I think she's cute :)
Did you add the photo in in an edit or did I just completely miss it before? I was very confused about what everyone was on about until I went back. (And I think she looks lovely.)

Susan - I wasn't officially admitted as I was only 2cm when I examined me but my contractions were coming every 5 mins, so they allwed me to stay in a bathroom, where they forgot about me and didn't tell the next shift that I was there.
I don't think they examined me until just before they admitted me which was 1hr 40 after I arrived. I was having 1m30 contractions every 2 minutes before I went to hospital but by the time they'd faffed about taking ages to deal with me when I got there they went down to every ten minutes. I was a bit miffed that they just dissappeared for ages and didn't bother doing anything but I guess I should be thankful that at least they didn't completely forget about me.

Thanks for the advice yesterday on Erin not feeding on my left side. I took a mixtures of the advice given and expressed a bit then tried feeding her again and she was fine! That was after her not feeding all day from the left so maybe there was a blockage that the expressing cleared or a bit of milk that tasted funny? Who knows, just glad everything is back to normal now. OH has been at home all day today and Erin has been laughing at him loads :)
    That's good to hear.

No, I'm fine. Just feel bad when I don't join in sometimes. It ends up like I'm only talking about me when I'm actually avoiding something. IYKWIM! :o
Don't worry - I'm sure everyone has certain topics they don't feel they can join in with for whatever reason.
Nirning all. Anyone got a cure for the common cold? I'm fed up of snot and headaches and roasting.

That's roughly how I feel. I went in expecting a certain level of care which I just didn't get. If I'd known beforehand it would have been like that I could have been much better prepared. The quality of care that Weezl and Sami described as having in their homebirths is pretty much the standard I had expected.

plus I think at a hospital things sometimes need to be even 'nicer' to offset the scary and unfamiliar hospitallyness. Having spent sat sun and mon in one, it's just so obvious to me that the smell of dettol, other people in pain/distress, complicated looking systems run by people with different coloured clothes on according to rank and role, but inexplicable to the general public. Weird decor mostly peeling, uncomfy beds, one small flat pillow... All tiny things but just not 'right'. That way if a MW is a bit dismissive, you can't roll with it in the same way. And because it's not your space, you can't 'mind'.

For us it was, our house, our rules. Our smells familiar things, food, equipment. Just so, so different.

I hope that makes some sense!

elle-gee- make sure you make time just to have a bit of a sit down and a cuppa while you are baby free! :)

Ladybird- Me and DD have woken up all bunged up with a sore throat too- rubbish! If someone has a cure send it this way too

I wanted a HB with DD, but unfortunately didn't turn out that way after a very long labour, this time round I am planning a homebirth again, but plan on ringing the MW at the last minute as last time I felt I rung them before I felt I needed them, purely as I was thinking I should give them notice so they could arrange to come out to me, I will be much more selfish this time :)

If you are doing the balloons yourself then just put some made up wallpaper paste into the balloon first, rub it around the inside of the balloon and then add helium simples..

Hey, none of that from you! You're coming with me to make sure Sami's not a builder called Dave! :p And to see if we can convince Charlie that Edgar is not called Rhys/Reece ;)

Had really bad night with Reece last night so I'm blaming you after asking about his sleeping! In a foul mood with two little monsters and above really made me chuckle, thanks

Ah and AF (not anglefairy!) has arrived for the first time since Reece was born and I've got belly ache and theres cold RR in the fridge.... will it last til DH comes home from work?

Hi xmaslolly, we have a little system going so people's important stuff doesn't get lost :).

ie: baby monitors, does anyone have any experience of the breathing detector ones that clip to the waistband of the nappy?

we put it in bold if we want an answer!

PS that is a genuine question of mine, as well as an example for Lolly :)
