I am tempted next time Sami, but this one went so quickly (from 2cms at 7:15am to being born at 10:29am, with no examinations or pain relief until 10am) that I'm worried the MW wouldn't get to me in time.

When I had given birth the MW said to me "if you have a second baby, you need to get to hospital, or if you're having a home birth call the MW, as soon as you start contracting as it could be half the time next time".

I just think "what if they can't get to me in time". I couldn't cope with just me and DH. I cried when I got to hospital cos I was so relieved there were people who knew what they were doing (at that point, I didn't know they were going to leave me in a bathroom for several hours!).

Yeah I got told next time would be quick and not to hang about at home.

Tara - I am very  at your thread being hijacked!

I know you have the fear of them not getting to you, but if you have time to get to hospital then you have time for a MW to get to you ;)
My fave MW lives just down the road from me so if it was her on call duty when I started she could have been with me in minutes :D
The best bit about a HB is that you wouldn't be left alone so non of that alone worrying:T

I too was told not to hang around as Ed's birth could be very short going by Chris taking just short of 7hrs (4hrs 'established labour') due to this I called the hops straight away and told them how quick my 1st labour was, they sent a MW straight away and she stayed with me until he was born.
She said she would normally have left me and told me to try to get sleep but due to previous labour time she stayed.
As it turns out Ed's labour was longer, I had twinges all day, realised I was in labour when I had a show and some contractions and he arrived 6hrs 20min later:)
