hugs Nicki, how awful
Aless, that's interesting about the fruit. I wonder if that's better to concentrate on then. I had thought it was lack of meat for people's OH's that was more of an issue over on old-style, perhaps wrongly.
People seemed to be saying they were feeling dreadful, huge amounts of debt, but their DH needed meat with every meal.
Maybe I'll be able to do different versions.
Not that I'm saying you should follow one of the plans aless, in case it sounds that way! They're only really meant to try and help the people who really need to make the savings but feel they can't because they've heard/think it can't be done healthily, IYSWIM? It's something I feel really strongly about and suspect I will quietly plod away trying to make a difference to all my life:)
Ah, maybe it was just my personal tastes taking over! My DH is generally amendable to whatever I put on the table, so long as it tastes good, so I was more thinking of my personal preference for fruit (as I'm not huge on some veggies like beetroot, cabbage, broad beans & sprouts)!
(I suspect I could never follow your plans, anyway, as you guys seem to eat the tiniest of lunches & very little snacking, something I could never do! I suspect we eat smaller dinners but more throughout the day.)
eta: our eating is random when we're home but typical 'working day' goes like this:
breakfast: oats or cereal (DH will sometimes have 2 pieces toast instead, but I never have toast for brekkie). Weekends we'll have eggs & bacon or for a treat, American-style pancakes or French toast.
lunch: sandwich, 2 pieces of fruit (or 1 fruit, 1 celery/carrot sticks), some sort of side like crisps or cakey-thing. When i was working, I'd also bring an 'extra' for a mid-morning snack - usually 25g of pretzels packed from a larger bag. Or if there's leftovers, we'll have that in lieu of sandwich.
dinner: anything goes, really. But some sort of 'main' with carbohydrate accompaniment, plus a veg (well that's my goal, but sometimes we miss out on the veg, naughty me). Veg is 75% of the time frozen broccoli, frozen spinach or frozen peas. Or some sort of one-pot dish that incorporates all this! DH often likes a couple slices of bread with dinner
dessert: not everyday, definitely, but sometimes there will be a snack in the evening if dinner was a bit light. Just whatever we have in the cupboard, generally (crackers, rice cakes, toast, nuts, whatever).
I'm lucky in that DH is happy with vegetarian meals interspersed with meat ones. He even went with me when I did an experimental vegan week last year!
Nicki - oh no!! At least everyone's okay

Oh no nicki how horrible, I remember when my mums was broken into overnight, I was about 12 it was very upsetting. I am so glad you and your family slept through it and it didn't become more serious.
I have really become slack on food budgetting, we have been spending between £90-£110pw although that does include all nappies, toiletries, cat and dog food....but still too high for my liking!! Dh prefers meat with his main meal, although is happy to have the odd veggie dish, we spend a lot on fruit though a I allow the kids free access to the fruit bowl whereas they have to beg for crisps/biscuits etc xUnless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.0
