  • i didnt actually put my card in the machine. deep down i know i should take it back, but my life has been so !!!! and bad things happen to me all the time, so karma can kiss my !!!.
i think i will be taking it back in the morning. thing is, if tht happened to me, theres no way i would see that money again. no one would hand it back in. i have been scammed before and its not nice. but technically i didnt steal it, i didnt use his card or anything to get the money. i found it lol.

Even if you found it you have to hand it in. Nobody claims it after 3 months it is then yours.

im more concerend with getting into trouble for taking it in the first place, it was just instinct to take it, i thought the person would be there. i wouldnt walk away and leave my money in machine.
is it likely they will look through their cctv and see whos took it? or will the person just get the money from the bank? will the police be involved?

I can see you being on the new Crimewatch series. ...:rotfl:
  • theft by finding......i would hand it in as the police will catch up with u!
always send a smile as it costs nothing..

  • If you find something, hand it in at the police station, ask for a receipt for it, after 6 months without a claim it's legally yours :)

Take it to the Police station. You may be given the money if no-one claims it. How much money are we talking about here?

BTW, i dont see it as stealing.

You seem an honest, albeit "tempted" person, who has a concience, and are currently "looking after" the money prior to handing it to the bank/cop shop.

Someone else could have easily come along and spent it on drink/drugs without a second thought.

This happened to me once - went to use a cashpoint to find £50 sticking out of it. I handed it into the bank. Any amount of money is too much to lose these days, and I would like to think (maybe naively??) that if it had been me who'd forgotten to take my money out of a cashpoint, someone else would be honest enough to hand it in.

The right and proper thing to do is to hand it back however the scaremongering by some here (If you wish to keep it) is ridiculous. Of course you can be traced as the person who used the cash machine after the previous person and of course there should be CCTV evidence of this but in the real world its simply not going to go that far with all that hassle over a few kwid - including police involvement etc. etc.

As I said you should hand it in but if you chose not to you would almost certainly get away with it.

Not likely. Most people would grab the money for themselves.

I suspect the OP has no intention of handing it in, just looking for the probability of getting caught.

OP: whether you hand it in or keep it, be under no illusion - keeping it IS stealing.
