found money in cashpoint

hi, i need some advice.
i went to use a cashpoint today and before i put my card in, the machine beeped, and money came out. i realised it must have been the person who used the machine before me, so i took it out. but as i turned round, no one was there. i kept the money, but am feeling bad about it. im thinking that i should go and hand it into the bank tomoz (the cashpoint was part of the bank) and there is cctv there, so im worried i will get into trouble aswell if i keep it.
what would you do. and does anyone know if i do keep it, if i will get caught and in trouble. i feel bad its someone elses money, but it was their stupid fault for leaving it, and i found it. i could really be doing with the money anyway. please help

Is there any way of proving whose it was, if you did take it to the bank?0

If you had left it in, the cashpoint would have "sucked" it back in and credited that person's account. Taking it really is stealing.
If you took out money from your account (after taking theirs), it will easily be traced to you.
My advice - take it back to the bank. Someone will be asking about it.0 -
id take it into the bank and explain the situationReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

I would take it back in, its easily traced to you and to be honest its stealing. I have stupidly been distracted once when getting some money out and walked away without it! What an idiot!! When I realised, I was crying with panic as it was my last £70.00 for shopping. I legged it to the bank and luckily it had "gone back round" and back into my account. I have NEVER done something so stupid since.
If someone had stolen that £70.00, yes after time I would of got it back, but the hassle does not bear thinking about
You could say that you brought it in late as you were in such a rush at the time...blah..blah...to cover yourself.Thankful For My LBM

Think about how you'd feel if it had happened to you. Give it back to the bank and hope that someone will hand your money in if you lose it." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

i didnt actually put my card in the machine. deep down i know i should take it back, but my life has been so !!!! and bad things happen to me all the time, so karma can kiss my !!!.
i think i will be taking it back in the morning. thing is, if tht happened to me, theres no way i would see that money again. no one would hand it back in. i have been scammed before and its not nice. but technically i didnt steal it, i didnt use his card or anything to get the money. i found it lol.0 -
im more concerend with getting into trouble for taking it in the first place, it was just instinct to take it, i thought the person would be there. i wouldnt walk away and leave my money in machine.
is it likely they will look through their cctv and see whos took it? or will the person just get the money from the bank? will the police be involved?0 -
Yes, it's almost certain to be on camera and can be traced to you. I'd return it. Ever seen Crimewatch - banks have everything on camera, including outside the premises.
Aside from any 'moral' issue which is a personal thing (and I know exactly what you mean about carp luck and karma) it's really not worth the hassle, so I'll pass on the same advice that I was given last night and today - if you haven't already seen it, take a look at my thread on here 'Mysterious Credit in Bank Account Dilemma.'0 -

How? If you take money out of your account and then leave it at the ATM and someone takes it how would you have got it back? The bank isn't responsible so they're not going to be in any rush to pay you back.0
