Plastering question (External corners)
Comments

whoever original plastered it hasnt used angle bead and had got a good finish, apart from the slight curve! It is a 200 year old cottage so i just call the curve character.
If you use that stop bead as I have explained above you can lose this curve if you want to. Skim will just be thicker in the middle0 -
If i decide not to use a bead any tips how to finish the edge off?0

Plasterer will no doubt correct me if I am wrong, as he is a professional and I am an amateur, but from my experience;
If the hollow is large, then make good with bonding. When I was doing this I got my wife to hold a board up against the adjacent wall and plastered up to this.
If the hollow is not large, then make sure that you put some top coat plaster in the hollow to stick the beading down. This will make sure the beading is properly supported there while you adjust to to square and vertical.
When everything is finished, the plaster works its way into and around the beading, and once it goes hard it locks the beading into place so it can't bounce.
You will eb surprised how well the paster sticks the beading into place. It really is rock solid.
Spot on imp, :T only thing different is I wouldn't put a board aginst it, i would just "freehand" it and use a feather edge to level (however this is perfectly acceptable for a DIYer). I would then cut any excess of to the true line of the other wall with my trowel when it starts "going off"
If you use bonding, remember to scratch it up before it goes off to give skim something to key to.0 -

Yes, when applying the plaster, go up the bead with the trowel. If you go from left into the bead the skim will "dip in" where the bead is, that is to say you will cause another hollow - though this one won't be as obvious as the one you said about (until you put a straight edge on it).
So to reiterate ALWAYS TROWEL UP THE BEAD to get it nice and flat0 -

Prey to the big man upstairs :rotfl:
Use a bead mate, trust me.
however, as I know you think the twitcher is "pants" there is 1 more way.
When you plaster upto the edge do it VERY TIGHT. that is to say that there wouldn't be much plaster right on the corner almost like its painted on. I'd just like to say on that note though that this is something that is rarely done, maybe round the odd fireplace hole.
Get that BEAD ON!!!!! :eek:0 -
Im gonna trust you god like plastererman and do my utmost to secure the bead properly i think.
Although when i skim i do it very thinnly. Ill get that bead on i think0 -

I am going to put some rockwool insulation in a intregal garage soon and to hold it in place between the rafters I may use plasterboard.
Now bare in mind its a ceiling in a garage roof is flat with EPDM roofing, do I use nails or screws?

If you want to reproduce your curve, you can get flexible plastic beading from Screwfix0
